Prague, March 16 (CTK) – Roughly 50 Czechs, mostly tourists, are in preventive quarantine in a hotel in Egypt due to the novel coronavirus, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zuzana Stichova has told journalists.

Another 50 are on their way back, Stichova said.

“We are actively dealing with the situation of the Czechs who are in Egypt in preventive quarantine. Out of the roughly 100 Czechs in Egypt, one-half are on their way back the Czech Republic, while the rest will return later today,” Foreign Minister Tomas Petricek (Social Democrats, CSSD) said.

The Foreign Ministry is cooperating with Prague sanitary officers on the return of Czech citizens from Egypt, he added.

Stichova declined to elaborate on the place where the Czechs were staying in Egypt.

Egypt is one of the Middle East countries in which the coronavirus has claimed some lives. According to the Wednesday data, the number of the infected was close to 70.

Earlier today, WHO regional representative Dalia Samhouri named Egypt among the countries that underestimate the number of the ill.
