start smart

Look out for a striking sunset

On Monday, June 9, expect striking sunrises and sunsets as smoke from Canadian wildfires drifts high over Czechia. Though the smoke may tint the sky orange, it won’t impact air quality at ground level. The fine dust, mostly harmless at altitude, demonstrates how pollutants can travel thousands of kilometers.

Castle closure ahead

Prague Castle will close to the public at 3 p.m. on June 10 for a large-scale security drill simulating a violent attack, police said. The exercise, involving 300 extras and multiple emergency units, is the first of its kind at the historic site. It’s part of broader national efforts to improve protection of soft targets, such as cultural venues and public spaces.

Beware online price glitches

Reebok’s online store caused a buying frenzy through the weekend by listing prices in both euros and crowns—with no conversion—leading to shirts for CZK 30 and sneakers under CZK 100. At press time customers were rushing to buy, while the company remains silent. Will orders be honored or canceled? Czech social networks are watching closely.

Support Ukraine by shopping

A new initiative by the Ukrainian Embassy and the Chutě Ukrajiny store in Čakovice supports the Ukrainian army. A portion of proceeds from Ukrainian goods will go directly to the 21st Brigade. Shop with impact and taste authentic Ukrainian products while backing a vital cause.
