Witch Burning at Ladronka

Prague, 15 April, 2010 – Annual night of magic, the celebration of spring and gathering of all witchy beings is celebrated all around Europe. Originally it was the biggest pagan festivity that is now largely influenced by Christian symbols. Traditionally people used to light up bon fires to dispel evil demons and spirits and later they began to burn witches. The biggest celebration of Walpurgisnacht in the Central Europe is happening in Prague 6 in Ladronka Park.  

On the last day of April the Prague 6 district organises an annual with rally in the Ladronka Park. The program is both for children and adults and offers musical, sports, artistic and relaxation activities. Last year there were over 11 thousand people of all age groups and many also with families attending the event.  

On Friday April 30since 3 p.m. all the visitors of Ladronka Park witch burning can experience all sorts of magic. There will be entertainment on stage as well as all around the area; popular music groups milo and Živé kvety unplugged from Slovakia will both perform during the concert; an independent puppet company Buchty a loutky will perform a puppet show for children and adults; companies Primavera and Karamelky will charm you with their dancing performance; and an unconventional fire show will add an extra sparkle to the whole evening.

On that evening Ladronka Park will turn into sport grounds. Magicians of all kinds on bikes and skateboards will perform a U-ramp exhibition with a new FUNBOX LINE. Of course there will also be kite sport, Nintendo game zone with an interactive console Nintendo Wii and a dancing school. Witch in-line races will be open to everyone, so don´t forget to register in time. You can bring your own skates or rent ones on spot, but the rules strictly prohibit any magical tricks.   

Magician youth will enjoy various games such as bag jump races or throw on target. To become a proper magician you also need to practice croquet, lacrosse or petanque!  There will be various magical workshops and stools with magic herbs, food and potions.

Ladronka Park welcomes creative people. Those who forgot to bring a wizard mask can create a new one; others can make up a colour witch out of pet bottles in a pet-art workshop. All the dressy girls will enjoy visiting the ugliness salon to get a make up or a hair-do for free. Then they can charm the audience during the election of the Miss Witch.  Try your magic in a number of other competitions winning magical awards.  

All the wizardry and magic is ecological! Eko-kom will give a live presentation of a playful and entertaining form of recycling. There will be a competition in collecting plastic cups; we recycle and care about our environment.
