How low can a thief sink?

How about lifting the tires off of a vehicle that provides care to terminally ill patients?

That’s exactly what the good folks at Mobilní hospic Ondrášek encountered this morning, when they found that the tires on their car had been replaced by wooden blocks.

The mobile Hospice provides comprehensive assistance to terminally ill children, adults, and their families in the Ostrava region, according to its website. They accompany families during the death process, and provide support to those whose final wish is to die at home.

That is, as long as they have a functional vehicle to provide such services.

“So you arrive to the car in the morning and try to leave to see your patients,” the Hospice posted to their Facebook wall this morning.

“It won’t be possible today. The person who took those wheels probably did not think about what they would cause.”

There is, however, some good to come out of this story.

As the post spread through Facebook, offers of support – financial and otherwise – flooded in. The Hospice updated their post hours later:

“Dear friends, we were struck by an avalanche of support and solidarity. We really appreciate it and thank you for it. For fairness-sake, we would like to say that the cars are insured and that we will only be paying to the deductible amount only. Thank you for your offers to lend us your cars, we are already solving the issue.”
