No one plans to spend their vacation sick in bed. But when illness, or any kind of medical emergency, strikes while traveling abroad, practical questions follow quickly. Will your Czech health insurance cover treatment? And if your holiday ends up looking more like sick leave than time off, do those vacation days still count?

The answers are not always straightforward. What your Czech insurance covers and if you can recoup those lost vacation days depends largely on where you are traveling, what kind of care you receive, and whether you have the paperwork to prove what happened.
