Prague Temperatures Eclipse October Record

For the fifth consecutive day, temperatures across the Czech Republic set record highs - including 23.5° in central Prague

Have you been enjoying this year’s babí léto?

For five consecutive days over the past week, temperatures in the Czech Republic reached highs unseen in the past 200+ years of record-keeping.

The Husinec-Řež measuring station near Prague, for example, measured 25.1° yesterday, October 14, setting a new mid-October high. In Doksany, near Litoměřice, temperatures also reached 25° yesterday.

And in central Prague at the Klementinum measuring station, peak temperatures of 23.5° were recorded yesterday.

Incredibly, that’s a full degree higher than the former record high recorded in central Prague on the date; the previous high, a temperature of 22.3°, was recorded in 1836.

The Klementinum measuring station in Prague has been continuously monitoring temperatures since 1775, making it the oldest weather tracking station in the country and one of the oldest in the world.

At 34 of the 137 measuring stations across the Czech Republic, new 30-year highs were recorded for October 14, 2018.

Local meteorologists forecast sunny skies and similar high temperatures throughout the coming days, with a gradual cooldown coming towards the end of the week.
