Increasing antisocial behavior and recent crime in Prague’s Anděl district, which has seen two physical attacks in the past month, have prompted a response from the City of Prague to help improve the situation.
According to a press release, patrols will feature three members of the police force from now on, rather than two as was previously the case.
The Czech national police force will also, several times per week, deploy a nine-member team that features members of the Czech Special Order Unit to monitor the district in Prague 5.
"There will be more policemen and constables in uniforms and civilian clothes at Anděl. The area is a busy place; many people go there every day for work, shopping, or entertainment. It must be a safe location, and the increased presence of police officers also has a preventive character"
Prague Mayor Bohuslav Svoboda

Those who live near or regularly travel through Anděl will be aware of a significant presence of homeless people on the streets.
The most recent physical attack in the district occurred last Sunday when a man was stabbed during a dispute between a pair of homeless people. Previously, a man was injured in a similar incident on April 12.
Crime rates in Prague – and Czechia – increased substantially year on year in 2022, although they are still lower than those from the pre-Covid year 2019.
