Get Ready for Mozart...at the Post Office!

Ondřej Kobza has announced his next big event: a free concert at the historic Czech Post Office on Prague’s Jindřišská Street

The Pianos In the Streets (Piana na ulici) project, launched several years back by Czech impresario Ondřej Kobza, brought spontaneous art into the public sphere in a way that had yet to be seen in the Czech Republic.

It led to a series of concerts in unusual places including Prague’s central train station and a pontoon boat in the middle of the Vltava.

Kobza, also the creative force behind the city’s first poetry periscope as well as the historic opening, last autumn, of the Palace Lucerna rooftop, has announced his next big event—this time at a venue rarely accustomed to public applause: the Czech post office on Jindřišská Street.

According to a post on Kobza’s Facebook page: “On Tuesday, March 7 after the official closure of the building, we [have] organized at 20.30 an unconventional concert, which will be free for all.”

The musical program will focus on Mozart with noteworthy Czech classical musicians Tomáš Jamník (violoncello) and Miroslav Sekera (piano) performing.

The highlight of the evening will be a performance of Mozart’s “Prague Symphony” by the Czech Radio Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Thomas Brauner.

The grand post office building on Jindřišská, which was completed in the second half of the 19th century, is also known for housing a pneumatic post which can reach Prague Castle in under eight minutes.

Says Kobza: “This time, however, we invite you to pick up a shipment of musical experience.”
