Known for its singing fountain, historic landmarks, and carbon dioxide-rich spring waters, Mariánské Lázně has established itself as a beloved destination for those seeking therapeutic treatments and relaxation.

Its renown has attracted nobility, prominent scholars and composers, the likes of Chopin, Goethe, Nietzsche and Britain's King Edward VII, for generations.

While it’s long been a cherished destination for national tourism and medical rehabilitation, the town’s star power got a real boost after it was anointed a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2021 – an honor that places it among the Great Spa Towns of Europe. The prestigious title has helped usher in a fresh wave of domestic and international visitors delighting in Mariánské Lázně’s singular charm and long list of natural healing attributes that can be enjoyed year round.

In addition to its mineral springs working to ease chronic aches and pains, and a unique bioclimate that helps to fight off a number of respiratory woes, Mariánské Lázně can add another distinction to its impressive medicinal offerings – treatment of urological diseases.

One of the first urological departments in the Austro-Hungarian Empire was established here in 1913, using water from the mineral springs as a basis for treating, among other issues, bladder infections, prostate inflammation and kidney stones.

Ensana Hotels is dedicated to continuing this tradition. The chain has seven spa properties in Mariánské Lázně – Nové Lázně, Centrální Lázně, Hvězda, Pacifik, Svoboda, Vltava and Butterfly – that offer a wide range of preventive health programs and customized rehabilitation therapies for those already experiencing problems.

Ensana’s health programs generally span seven days and include a thorough medical check before a treatment is recommended. Programs rely on natural healing resources and are tailored by the doctor to fit a client’s specific health condition.

For those in their mid-30s and 40s, a preventative approach is used, with a focus on maintaining your fitness level and deepening your nutritional knowledge.

For those who are 50+, health problems may have already started to show. The focus here is on tips for improving your fitness as well as for weight loss, alcohol restriction and gout prevention, among other age-related health problems.

Nové Lázně, Ensana’s majestic five-star hotel, recently introduced the PelviPower treatment, which helps strengthen pelvic floor muscles and is highly recommended for sustaining health and fitness at any age.

This non-invasive and painless method uses a magnetic field to treat a number of problems linked to urology, gynecology and rehabilitation. PelviPower effectively alleviates urinary and fecal incontinence, erectile dysfunction and issues surrounding menopause and postpartum recovery.

Ensana prides itself on being No. 1 in the treatment of urological issues. Its hotels specialize in therapies geared toward bladder infections in women and prostate inflammation in men. The chain works with an experienced urologist and has a new diagnostic ultrasound machine.

For bladder infections, which mainly impact young women, Ensana suggests a “drinking cure” with carbonated mineral water from the town’s Rudolph Spring. Peat wraps and other types of thermotherapy are also recommended.

Heat treatments, meanwhile, are used to alleviate prostate inflammation. Ensana favors a treatment called TRIAS, which uses a combination of dry carbonic baths, therapeutic ultrasound and paraffin compresses. Patients have reported their problems go into remission for more than six months following treatment.

With the weather steadily warming, there is no better time to start planning a spring getaway to the crown jewel of the West Bohemian Spa Triangle. Roughly two hours from Prague, Mariánské Lázně provides a nice mix of historic splendor, nature and wellness options.

Whether you are looking for a bit of pampering or in need of a medical treatment plan, Ensana is offering a 20% spring discount for a stay at one of its health spa hotels on reservations made between March 6 and 11.

Let us help you plan your next trip.
