Czech Republic reports 78 new COVID-19 cases Wednesday, same as previous day

Prague, May 7 (CTK) – The number of new COVID-19 cases increased by 78 in the Czech Republic on Wednesday, the same number as on Tuesday, but laboratories conducted about 1,150 fewer tests according to data from the Health Ministry’s website released at 8:30 today.

Because of this, the proportion of the newly infected to the number of the tests conducted rose to 0.94 percent, the highest ratio over the past five days.

There have now been a total of 7,979 cases of COVID-19 infection, 4,214 recoveries and 263 deaths in the Czech Republic.

The number of the cured rose by 12 and of the deaths by one since Wednesday evening.

At present, there are 3,502 persons suffering from the disease, 275 are hospitalized with it, and 52 of them are in a serious health condition.

In Prague, 1,789 cases have been reported, followed by the Moravia-Silesia region with more than 1,000.

By contrast, the number of currently infected is under 200 in the South Bohemia, Vysočina, Liberec and Hradec Králové regions.

The incidence per capita is the worst in the Karlovy Vary region, with 140 infected per 100,000 population. In Prague, the figure stands at 131 and the situation is the best in the South Bohemia region, with 27 infected per 100,000 population.

On Wednesday, the COVID-19 death toll was three, on Tuesday two and on Monday four.

The most deaths, 89, have occurred in Prague, followed by the Moravia-Silesia Region with 37 victims, the Karlovy Vary Region with 24, Central Bohemia with 22 and the Usti Region with 20 victims.

By contrast, the Zlin Region in central Moravia has only recorded one COVID-19-related death.
