How does the 100% Online CELTA course work?
Up to now, “Online CELTA courses” have been blended courses, meaning partly online and partly face to face. Our new 100% Online CELTA course does not require any face to face training at all. You will complete all of the training, teaching practice and assignments online in Zoom. There is a dedicated input session on Zoom and your interview will also be via Zoom, so you will get firsthand experience of using Zoom even before the course has started. This is an intensive course so you can expect to receive 30 hours of training per week and spend an additional 15-25 hours studying in your own time. Wherever you are in the world, you will have access to this course and to the opportunities which will open up for you upon successful graduation from the CELTA.
What will the online training be like?
Monday to Friday, you will attend dynamic, practical training sessions online, led by our team of experienced CELTA tutors. We will give you access to our online classroom delivered via Zoom so that you can participate at the click of a button. During these training sessions, you will be able to work in pairs and small groups and collaborate as if you were in a real classroom. The methods and materials the tutors use in these sessions can be adapted and taken into your own classrooms. Subjects covered will include teaching methodologies, grammar and language awareness and selecting materials, amongst others.
Take a look at an example input session in the video on our website here: https://www.oxfordtefl.com/oxford-tefl-courses/cambridge-celta/cambridge-celta-100-online
What will the online Teaching Practice be like?
At the start of the course, you will be divided into small teaching practice groups and assigned an experienced tutor to guide you during your teaching practice. You will teach 6 hours in total to groups of between 6 and 12 students on average. You will receive one-to-one support planning your classes and your tutor will observe you and give you feedback on the classes you teach. You will also have the opportunity to observe your peers and give them feedback on their classes. All classes will be delivered via our online platform, Zoom, and you will teach a minimum of two levels. We also provide one dedicated input session on teaching in “real” classrooms and three video observations of these type of classes as part of your training.
Why should I take a CELTA course?
The Cambridge CELTA is one of only two TEFL qualifications that are listed by the British Council as an acceptable teaching qualification that meets their standards and requirements. This means that many institutions worldwide prefer to employ those with the Cambridge CELTA as opposed to other TEFL certifications.
If you would like to teach English abroad, this is possibly the best way you can start. We have been training teachers since 1998 and we are ready to help you gain your internationally-recognized TEFL certification too. Join over 4000 of our graduates now teaching worldwide!
What will I be able to do once I have a CELTA qualification?
Graduates of our CELTA courses typically go on to work in private language schools, teaching adult or young learner students around the world. Some also go on to teach students online or work for language training agencies. One of the great things about the CELTA qualification is that once you have it, you can work anywhere (visa permitting).
How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed throughout the course and there is no final examination. The CELTA course also takes into consideration various aspects of professionalism and professional development.
The two types of assessment are:
1. Teaching practice
You will teach online for a total of 6 hours, working with adult classes at a minimum of two levels of ability. Assessment is based on your overall performance.
2. Written assignments
You will complete four written assignments (each 750–1,000 words).
