Strings of Autumn, through November 9
The season’s most innovative musical undertaking runs every autumn and is already in full swing. Strings of Autumn brings to Prague global performers, premieres and debuts, playing the music in sometimes surprising venues. Tickets go fast for the concerts which range from jazz and classic to traditional and experimental. Highlights include piano popster Rufus Wainwright on October 21.

Peter Gabriel, October 10
The former lead singer of Genesis plays O2 Arena as part of his “Back to Front” tour. Audience memebers will be treated to the Gabriel’s legendary album So from start to finish.

Film, theater, art

World Press Photo, through October 13
The annual best of the best in photography returns to Prague. A news wrap-up in photos from the previous year; categories including spot news, contemporary issues, sports and more.

StartPoint: Prize for Emerging Artists 2013, through October 28
The best of young artistic talent is on display at Dox this month. StartPoint aims to create a platform for encounters between up-and-coming artists and experts across countries and genres. Curators looked at 35 European art schools in 16 countries to select the best, brightest and most interesting to compete for this award.

TRUTH AND LIES. Filming in the Terezín Ghetto 1942-1945, through February 23, 2014
The Jewish Museum’s Robert Guttmann Gallery has put together a fascinating account of the two propaganda films made about the Terezín ghetto during the war. The exhibition charts the history behind the projects, focusing on the people who initiated the films and describes the conditions for the filming

Impro Prague, October 31-November 3
The Impro festival looks at the international trends in improvisational theater and TheatreSports, examining what’s happening at home and abroad. Guest companies this year will be from France, Belgium and Austria. One Czech troupe and one foreign troupe will perform each evening.

4+4 Days in Motion, October 11-19
Annual avant-garde theater festival features foreign and local performances and choreography examining social issues, often with a touch of humor. An Italian documentary theatre group, an Indian dance ensemble and the international art collective Superamas are just a few of this year’s highlights.

Prague Coffee Festival, October 5
A caffeine shock awaits you at Novoměstská radnice for this second annual festival celebrating the coffee bean, roasters, makers and servers. Participating cafes will also be holding events in their cafes the week prior.

Pilsner Fest, October 5
If you’d rather have a beer than coffee, head down to Plzeň and the Pilsner brewery for their yearly festival. This is a musical festival as much as it is about the beer and lots of great Czech bands will be on tap. Theater and food make for a full day’s entertainment.

Prague Burger Fest, October 12 & 13
Save your appetite and head to Náměstí Míru this weekend for the second annual Burger Fest. About a dozen restaurants will be serving their best burgers, with a competition Sunday afternoon to announce the best of the bun.

What's On in October

Designblok, October 7-13
Prague’s design week is here, showcasing the best in product, furniture, fashion and more from designers across the country. A special focus is made on up-and-coming designers and shows are put on in studios across the city. The big exhibition will take place this year in the Žižkov train station. In their Openstudio (Kafkův dům, Náměstí Franze Kafky 3), a pop-up shop will offer Czech fashion and jewelry.
