Visitors to Prague’s Stromovka Park have a new spot to relax this summer. The Lidl retail chain has quietly stepped into the foodservice business by building the "Lidl Summer Terrace" near the park's popular Grillpoint 1, situated between the Křižík Fountain and the Rudolf's Pond pier.
The new outdoor venue features two modern sales kiosks surrounded by seating options, including chairs, tables, bean bags branded with the Lidl logo, and beer benches crafted from wooden pallets.
Passersby can order refreshments exclusively from the chain's private labels. The menu features Argus draft beer, chilled Freeway sodas, Bellarom coffee, and Ballino or Gelatelli popsicles.
While the terrace officially opens on Thursday, June 18, the kiosks are already running in a trial phase and serving early customers. The venue is scheduled to remain open through the end of the summer season in September.
The project brings a massive perk for users of the supermarket's loyalty program. Customers who present the Lidl Plus mobile application can purchase the terrace's food and drink items for up to half price. With the app discount, a half-liter of draft beer costs CZK 25, while an espresso is priced at CZK 20.
Staff at the location note that the park spot is still relatively quiet as the company holds off on major advertising until the official launch date.
"Not many visitors know about us yet, but I think that will change quickly after Thursday," one bartender told E15.cz during the pre-opening trial.
The Stromovka terrace is the latest in a series of unconventional marketing moves by the discount giant in Czechia. In April, the supermarket chain partnered with the legendary Czech footwear brand Botas to release a limited-edition sneaker line called "Lidl Botasky," which sold out across the country almost immediately after hitting shelves.
