Travel the whole world in one day at the Colourful Nine Festival

On Saturday 27 August 2011 Vysočany Park in Podviní will present tastes, smells, rhythms and colours of the whole world, due to which you can travel the whole world for free in one afternoon. Starting at 2 p.m. the venue hosts the festival The Colourful Nine. „The Colourful Nine festival grew popularity over seven years providing space for the many national minorities living in Prague and the Czech Republic with a special atmosphere of mutual communication and entertainment of various cultures,“ states Adam Vážanský, a deputy major of Prague 9 district. There will be cultures and cuisines of four continents, dancers and musicians from far away and neighbouring countries, you can taste the delicatessen from various countries and purchase produce unavailable otherwise. For children there are many workshops and competitions including all festival competition “Travel the world in one” where they have fun, learn and compete for nice prices. Adults can enjoy great concerts or tastings of Caribbean rums and Moldavian wine. Same as in previous years the entry is free.

THIS YEAR´S PROGRAM
In Podviní park there will be a podium, where the main festival program takes place. One of its parts is a popular drumming with Miloš Vacík or dancing and music performance presenting a story of passionate love of a beautiful gypsy girl and the biggest horse thief named Gypsies go to heaven. A special dance and music performance for the main program is composed by hosts from Peru, Georgia, Bulgaria, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Indonesia, Uzbekistan, Pakistan or Vietnam.

A SPECIAL THEATRE TENT
In the west part of Podviní Park this year for the first time there will be theatre tent where children and their parents will have fun. Program speciality is a performance of Kraft company called Bambalina, that will come all the way from Spain, Madrid. Two players and a drummer will present a game full of fantasy and stories; they create a playful atmosphere, where it is not necessary to use words or elaborate stage properties, the magic game involves children from the audience and mainly the rich children fantasy world. Also there will be a spectacular bubble show of Václav Strasser with a bubble workshop for everyone who wants to play. You can have a good laugh with Tonda Novotný and his one man show for small children.

RHYTHMS OF SATURDAY EVENING
Evening program of the Colourful Nine will be full of foreign melodies and dancing. The traditional music gets connected with dance and exotic fashion show during the Angolan show. Marimba Mama group will heat you up with a lively mix of African beat, Latino and reggae. Following last year´s success the festival will once again welcome the Dominican band Chico Diaz Orquesta Salsaborrr in Caribbean rhythms of merenque; after the South-African show presenting its world music, you will see an evening fire show.

TASTES AND SMELLS OF THE WHOLE WORLD
At the festival you can feel exoticism and magic of far-away and neighbouring countries with your own senses. You can taste gastronomic specialities and traditional food from around twenty countries, for example Afghanistan, Angola, Bulgaria, China, Dominican Republic, Indonesia, Japan, Lebanon, Pakistan, Georgia and Vietnam. There will be also Roma catering, tea room and water pipes.

ETHNO MARKET
At the Colourful Nine there are hand-made objects and talismans you will never see elsewhere. You can buy produce from sheltered workshops in Africa, fashion ethno accessorise, Tibetan t-shirts, music CDs and many other specialities. Even your hair can be exotic, if you get interested in traditional African hair styling.
