The Open Championship 2011 saw thousands of spectators cheer on an outstanding display of pure golf at Royal St George´s with a pint of Pilsner Urquell, the world´s pure and original Pilsner.

Combining technology and quality control systems to ensure that attendees enjoyed the highest quality product, Pilsner Urquell served 74,431 pints to more than 179,700 spectators over the course of the Championship. While planning may have begun last December, it was in the final days before The Open that 90,000 litres of freshly brewed beer arrived in Kent from the brewery in Pilsen and 200 bartenders were trained to maintain quality, consistency and ensure a perfect pour at the four public bars across the course.

As the Official Beer, Pilsner Urquell shares a rich heritage, authenticity and premium nature with The Open Championship and is a truly fitting companion to the world´s original golf major. To bring together the legendary stories of The Open and Pilsner Urquell, renowned Scottish golfer and three time European Ryder Cup team captain, Bernard Gallacher, represented the brand for the extent of the Championship. Bernard shared his vast knowledge of the course and the players daily in the Pilsner Urquell hospitality chalet.

Petr Dvořák, International Brand Director for Pilsner Urquell, said, “We are thrilled that so many people have embraced Pilsner Urquell at The Open. We have worked hard to ensure a world-class beer experience for the attendees and look forward to continuing to be a part of the history of The Open in 2012.”

In 2012 The Open will return to Lancashire to be hosted by Royal Lytham & St Annes Golf Club. Pilsner Urquell is already beginning to plan a number of activities to make this event another truly legendary chapter in The Open´s ongoing history.

Pilsner Urquell
Pilsner Urquell is the original Pilsner, created in 1842. Pilsner Urquell means ‘pilsner from the original source´ and today is still brewed according to the original recipe, with the same quality ingredients and innovative process as was used back in 1842. Its distinctive, full-bodied taste is different from all others, with a fine balance of sweetness and bitterness. Pilsner Urquell is the flagship brand of SABMiller´s international brand portfolio and is a contender in the premium status segment of the market.
