Prague's robot wine bar reopens: David Černý's futuristic Cyberdog is back

Prague is no stranger to unusual bars, but one of its most futuristic drinking spots has returned. Cyberdog, the robot-operated wine bar designed by Czech artist David Černý, reopened on Oct. 20 after several years out of operation.

Located in Nové Butovice in Prague 13, the venue combines contemporary art, robotics, and gastronomy. Instead of ordering from a traditional bartender, visitors use their phones to select drinks, which are then prepared by a robotic arm and delivered along an automated track.

The reopening was reported by Czech news outlet iDNES on Tuesday.

Cyberdog first opened in November 2018 as an experimental venue combining hospitality with technology.

The two-story structure was designed by Černý and the Black n' Arch architectural studio, with its distinctive shape intended to resemble a sitting dog. Its metallic exterior also gives it the appearance of a small spacecraft.

Inside, the main attraction is a KUKA robotic arm that pours drinks. Orders are placed digitally and transported to customers using a track system built into the interior.

The building also features a glass facade equipped with special projection technology, allowing information about scientific and technological developments to be displayed to people outside.

Originally developed by Czech property company Trigema, the project cost more than CZK 23 million to build and has room for over 40 visitors.

The latest reopening involves students from Smíchov Secondary Technical School, who helped program the robot and are involved in operating the venue's technology and kitchen.

Their participation gives Cyberdog an educational role alongside its more unusual hospitality concept, bringing together practical training, engineering, and gastronomy.

The venue was originally conceived as a technology and information center rather than simply a place to drink wine, offering visitors a glimpse of how automation could become part of everyday life.

For Prague residents looking for something different from the city's traditional pubs and wine bars, Cyberdog offers a chance to experience a robot bartender in action.
