For the first time in Czech history, a majority of companies in the country – 56% – will be granting a full month’s salary to their employees as a Christmas bonus in 2018, according to a recent survey of local entrepreneurs by the Czech Chamber of Commerce.
That percentage represents a huge increase over recent years, with 47% of Czech companies granting the 13th salary bonus in 2017, and just 39% of local employees receiving the full-month Christmas bonus in 2016.
Larger corporations in the Czech Republic are most likely to grant the full month bonus.
“It is true that the bigger the company, the more it pays out to the employees,” Czech Chamber of Commerce spokesperson Miroslav Diro told Novinky.cz.
“The survey shows that three quarters (74 percent) of big companies, i.e. companies with more than 250 employees, plan to pay out a 13th salary at the end of the year.”
The average Christmas bonus is expected to exceed 30,000 crowns this year, with most employees receiving a bonus of somewhere between 15,000 and 35,000 crowns.
