Easter Markets Brighten Up Prague Streets

From now through the first weekend in April, Easter eggs and whips bring a little flair to Old Town Square and elsewhere

In the style of Prague’s ever-popular Christmas markets, Easter markets complete with pomlázka-styled maypole trees and colorful decorations were introduced throughout the city over the past weekend.

Until the end of the month, you can expect to see the markets throughout many locations in central Prague, including Old Town Square, Wenceslas Square, náměstí Republiky, and náměstí Míru.

In Old Town Square, the Easter market features a stage that will host daily concerts and Easter events for children. More information including a daily program of events can be found here. 

Later this week, the stage will host some special Irish-themed events in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day.

Stalls at Old Town’s market offer Czech Easter crafts and food & drink including the ever-popular trdelnik – but not of the ice cream-filled variety. 

The traditional crafts available at the markets include hand-decorated Easter eggs (some made in the style of famed Czech artist Josef Lada), wooden toys, and traditional braided whips (pomlázky) – used for whipping women on Easter Monday. 

The Old Town market will run through April 3. In Prague 2, you can visit the náměstí Míru Easter market daily until March 28.
