Now, a new Czech innovation is bringing the country's two passions together: a battery-powered beer tap designed for drinking in the forest.
The Durvag Settler V1, currently funding on Kickstarter, is a portable dispensing system that can chill and pour beer without being connected to an electrical outlet. The device can also handle other beverages, but its Czech makers seem to understand the most obvious use case.

As Czech tech journalist Filip Kůžel wrote after seeing an early teaser for the product: “A tap with a battery? That can only be invented by Czechs.”
The system can connect to standard kegs using the appropriate adapter. An integrated oil-free compressor pressurizes the keg, while an optional CO₂ connection can be used instead of air if the beer needs to stay in better condition for a longer period.
The device can cool drinks to 4°C, according to the manufacturer, while sensors automatically monitor temperature, pressure, and flow.
The company says it's not intended to replace a professional dispensing system at a summer beer festival. But if you're trying to get a properly chilled beer into the middle of the woods, that's rather beside the point.
The 'Settler' at a glance
17 kg
The Settler combines built-in cooling, pressure and a rechargeable battery in a 17-kilogram package. It cools drinks as they pass through the machine, so the entire keg does not need to be chilled.
24 beers an hour on battery
It can pour up to 24 half-liter beers per hour on battery power, rising to 40 beers an hour when plugged into an outlet.
Up to 20 hours of battery life
The battery can run the system for up to 20 hours, depending on factors including outside temperature, drink temperature and how quickly beer is poured. A full recharge takes about two hours.
Cold beer in 30–40 minutes
The initial cooling process takes about 30 to 40 minutes.
Kickstarter campaign takes off
The DURVAG Settler launched on Kickstarter on Sept. 1 and is already closing in on its USD 50,000 funding goal. As of Sept. 3, the campaign had raised USD 38,580 from 43 backers, putting it at about 77 percent of its target with 27 days still to go.
The timing is good; Czech autumn means mushroom foraging, forest hikes, and other woodland pursuits are in full swing.
The campaign runs until Oct. 1. Early backers can reserve a Settler ahead of its planned first deliveries in April 2027. The Kickstarter price is around USD 900, depending on the reward tier.
Czech family-run business
DURVAG describes itself as "a family-run Czech company developing portable, battery-powered beer taps for places where traditional draft equipment can't easily go."
The company says development of the Settler took two years, including, naturally, plenty of testing in the field.
The product has already found an audience beyond Czechia, and it's no coincidence. Kickstarter's backer data shows strong interest from some of the world's biggest beer-drinking nations, including Germany, Austria, Poland, and the UK.
