Prague, March 24 (CTK) – Some 3,000 people are likely to have contacted coronavirus by the end of March and 15,000 at the end of April in Czechia, including those who have recovered from it, according to estimates of the Czech Institute of Health Information and Statistics (ÚZIS), ÚZIS head said today.

UZIS director Ladislav Dusek said Czech hospitals should be able to take care of the patients with severe symptoms.

The number of newly confirmed COVID-19 cases were decreasing in the last few days and they are likely to stagnate. This makes us slightly optimistic, Dusek said.

Senior citizens represent 17 percent of COVID-19 patients in the Czech Republic. It seems that the adopted measures protect the seniors, Dusek said, adding that in Spain half of the patients are senior citizens.

According to ÚZIS data, 10-11 percent of COVID-19 patients in Czechia are in hospital, about one-fifth of the hospitalised patients need intensive care.

One infected person infected 2.64 people in Czechia on March 12 on average. This figure has been falling and it may be 1.2 people infected per one COVID-19 case next week.
