Hello, my name is Matthew Weber, I am a double bassist (kontrabasista), and bass guitarist with a Master's degree from the Juilliard School. I am an American citizen and have lived in the Czech Republic for the past four years. I am currently associate principal bassist of the Karlovy Vary Symphony Orchestra, principal pool member at the Czech National Symphony and principal bassist at the North Czech Capella. I teach and play both German and French style bass bows, and although I do speak Czech I conduct my lessons mostly in English. I teach all ages and skill levels on double bass and electric bass. Biography

Matthew Weber is currently associate principal bassist of the Czech National Symphony Orchestra, associate principal bassist of the Karlovy Vary Symphony Orchestra, a member of the North Czech Capella (North Czech Chamber Ensemble), and has recently performed with The Halle Orchestra as guest assistant principal bass.

A versatile and well traveled bassist, he has performed with the New Jersey, Richmond, Portland (ME), Riverside, Greenwich, and Virginia Symphony Orchestras, as well as the New York Gilbert and Sullivan Players, Hudson Valley Philharmonic, New Jersey Festival Orchestra, Orchestra New England, and toured France, England, Belgium, Russia, Germany and China.

As a devoted teacher Matthew has taught through the Goldman Fellowship for Arts Enrichment, as well as the Music Advancement Program, a program for talented young musicians at the Juilliard School. Between 2012 and 2015 he held a bass faculty position at the Turtle Bay Music School, and from 2015-2016 was double bass and chamber music faculty at the Luzerne Music Center. He has served as a performing associate, and teaching assistant to bassist Kurt Muroki at the Bowdoin International Music Festival. Matthew has performed at the BBC Proms, Look & Listen Festival, MATA Festival, Bowdoin International Music Festival, Luzerne Music Center, and the Lake George Music Festival.

Committed to new music, Matthew is a former member of Ensemble LPR (Le Poisson Rouge house orchestra), and the Mimesis Ensemble. He has performed with (the new music groups) Boston Modern Orchestra Project, Axiom Ensemble, and The New Juilliard Ensemble. In addition he has premiered numerous chamber and solo works for the double bass. Matthew has recorded for Deutsche Grammophon, Universal Records, Phillip Glass, soprano Teodora Gheorghiu, Albany Records, BMOP/Sound, and numerous movie scores.

Passionate about music from a young age, Matthew began his musical studies at the age of twelve playing Double bass, Electric bass, and Cello. He went on to major in classical Double bass, studying with Metropolitan Opera principal bassist, Timothy Cobb. Matthew holds a Master of Music degree from the Juilliard School and a Bachelor of Music degree from the Conservatory of Music at Purchase College. Other notable teachers include Joseph Russo, Kurt Muroki, and Linda McKnight.

Mr. Weber has performed under conductors such as Ennio Morricone, Petr Altrichter, James Levine, John Mauceri, Libor Pešek, Alan Gilbert, John Adams, Xian Zhang, JoAnn Falletta, Carl Davis and James DePreist, among others. He also has had the honor to work and perform with artists and composers such as Emmanuel Ax, Phillip Ying, June Han, Momenta Quartet, Joshua Bell, Rachel Barton Pine, Kurt Muroki, Samuel Adler, Max Richter, Simone Fontanelli, and David Del Tredici. Mr. Weber has been featured on NPR's Performance Today, Q2 Music, and in The Strad Magazine.

As a performer and composer of electro-acoustic music, Matthew has presented his music at the IRCAM ImproTech conference in New York City, and in concerts at the Juilliard School. In addition to classical music Matthew has remained equally comfortable playing double bass and electric bass in many other genres.
