Do you love history and geography? Do you think it is the most engaging discipline that young students encounter? Do you worry that their attitude is often compromised by the course design, which dates back to the previous century? Do you want to try something else? Here is your chance!
BASIS Prague is seeking a teacher to instruct the History & Geography course for Levels 5-7 (age 10 - 13). Based on your background and the school’s needs, you would be assigned additional teaching/non-teaching duties during the day. We are especially interested in a Spanish Teacher for Level 7, but there are other interesting opportunities available.
Start date: August 3, 2026. Campus: Bubeneč (Prague 6).
The curriculum at BASIS Prague is tailored to meet the needs of our unique educational program, which in the 2026/27 school year will serve students in Levels 1-7 (ages 5–13), with a new Level added each school year. Following this path, we will begin teaching at high school levels in a few years. The goal is to create an equivalent to a Czech multi‑year gymnasium (české víceleté gymnasium), but our program prepares students for both local (Czech) and foreign (English) prestigious college programs. While most of the instruction, especially in the lower levels, is in English, we are committed to ensuring students are prepared for the specialization of their choice in both languages. It is an accelerated program that challenges all students to reach their highest potential. Our students discover the gift of learning within themselves at our school.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Teaching responsibilities:
The role involves teaching History & Geography. The rest of the responsibilities will be set by need, availability and skills of the candidate and could include teaching and not teaching responsibilities. For Levels 5 and 6, the History & Geography course is taught daily (45 minutes per day per level), for Level 7, the History course is taught 2x week and the Geography course is taught 2x a week separately. Level 5, 6 and 7 are groups of 15-20 students per level. Only half of the students are proficient in Czech; most are proficient in English. The curriculum for the History & Geography course and the History and Geography classes is fully developed, but still in the pilot phase. This means that although the lesson plans, textbooks, and all instructional materials are prepared for the teacher, he or she needs to work closely with the course author, who is seeking feedback to finalize the materials for the next school year. The courses emphasize developing students' knowledge and understanding of key concepts necessary for future learning in history and geography. While memorization of geographical features and historical events is not expected, students need to familiarize themselves with enough facts to understand the concepts. The geography instruction focuses on historical geography—such as pinpointing locations of events on current maps and understanding whether the geographic nature of a site influenced the event, or how an event impacted the region's geography. The history instruction focuses on familiarizing students with historical concepts, even those that they do not encounter in their daily life, but they will need to understand for further advances in their studies of humanities subjects. The driving force in the pedagogy is spiraling the instruction. The students encounter any new concept on several levels of learning over the whole time of the school year.
Reviewing responsibilities:
Level 5/6 History & Geography and Level 7 Geography: Finalizing lesson plans based on the lesson plan template, reviewing worksheets, quizzes, and test results, and providing students with individualized feedback.
additional classes – responsibilities depending on the course
Teaching, lesson preparation, and authoring responsibilities are conducted using the proprietary software platform SPORK, which is utilized by all students and teachers.
