The Theatre Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (DAMU) is pleased to announce its first three-week summer theatre school in authorial and alternative theatre forms.  Courses are in English and will take place at DAMU, located in the heart of Prague’s historical center.

The Prague Summer Theatre School is rooted in the Czech Republic’s long history of puppet and object theatre, and its unique contributions to small-forms and authorial theatre since the 1950s.  It is part of DAMU’s developing international program.

Overview

The Prague Summer Theatre School is meant to provide theatre students and beginning practitioners with a diverse, hands-on immersion in the basic principles and practices of authorial and alternative theatre forms through courses in site-specific and interactive theatre, puppet and object theatre, solo authorial presentations and Acting with the Inner Partner.

Students will work with the school’s teachers toward a final performance at the end of the third week.  Access to the school’s theatrical and technical facilities (theatre and rehearsal spaces, internet) is included in the workshop.

Discover Prague’s theatre scene and the Czech Republic’s cultural heritage

Students will regularly attend performances with school faculty to discover Prague’s rich theatre scene.  Over the weekends, students may opt to join extracurricular activities, such as a trip to DAMU’s recreational facility in Southern Bohemia.

The intensive is also an excellent way for non-Czech speaking students to acquaint themselves with DAMU, especially for those who may be interested in applying for its Erasmus program and/or the M.A. programs in English the school plans to open in 2010.

Application Deadline: May 15th, 2009.
