The Prague Integrated Transport System (PID – Pražská integrovaná doprava) includes trains, trams, metro, funicular and boat transport options for locals and visitors alike. The railway (train) network in the Czech Republic and Prague is also quite dense and plays a major role in daily transit needs of people living on the outskirts and surrounding areas of the capital.

Trains withing the Prague Intergrated Transport System as referred to as “Vlakové linky S” (the S Lines). These fall within the Prague transport system. Tickets can be purchased at most newsagents at railway stations or at the entrances to metro stops. Alternatively, to purchase a ticket by SMS, a Czech number with premium SMS services activated must be used. Simply send a text to the number 902 06 with the message ‘DPT24’ (for a short-term ticket) or ‘DPT32’ (for a long-term ticket).

For many locals, travelling by train is traffic-free and quick option to get to Prague. From some parts of Prague, travelling by train circumvents the otherwise busy rushour troubles associated with buses, trams and sometimes the metro as well.
