Ten years ago, luxury fashion brand Louis Vuitton attempted to lease Charles Bridge to hold an exclusive fashion show.

While the city of Prague granted permission for the project – which meant a complete closure of Prague’s most-visited tourist locales – once details became public knowledge, negative public reaction quickly quashed the proposal.

Now, reports iDnes.cz, the fashion brand is pushing the idea once more. And it has a powerful supporter in the form of Czech Finance Minister Andrej Babiš.

“I think it would be great as part of the celebrations of 700 years since the birth of King Charles IV,” Babiš told iDnes. Throughout 2016, a number of events throughout the Czech Republic will mark the birthday of its greatest cultural icons.

In 2006, Louis Vuitton had an agreement to rent Charles Bridge for five days at a cost of less than 500,000 CZK. The deal would have meant partial closure of the bridge for most of that time – bridge visitors would have to traverse a ten-meter corridor – and total closure for one day.

Details of any potential cooperation this year have yet to be discussed.

The partial closure of Charles Bridge for activities such as this is not unheard of. Scenes for 1996’s Mission: Impossible were filmed on Charles Bridge, as were sequences for the upcoming movie Anthropoid, filmed last summer.
