A few weeks ago, I wrote about the Czech Republic being named one of the world’s top 10 countries for expats to live in.

The source was a survey by Expat Insider that polled thousands of expatriates from 191 countries around the world, and the Czech Republic came in at number 10 out of 67 countries with enough data to be considered.

And just a few weeks later, the Czech Republic has moved way up: in HSBC’s new 2016 Expat Explorer poll, the country comes in at number 4 out of 45 countries.

The Expat Explorer poll is based on interviews with more than 25,000 expatriates in 190 countries across the globe.

Now in its ninth year, banking giant HSBC bills the survey as “one of the largest independent global expat surveys.”

Countries are ranked according to three key areas: Economics (personal finances, local economy, and working life), Experience (lifestyle, community, and ease of setting up), and Family.

The Czech Republic ranked 12th in Economics, 8th in Experience, and 2nd in Family.

Overall, Singapore topped the list, as they did in 2015, followed by New Zealand and Canada. Taiwan, which topped the Expat Insider poll last month, was one of the Explorer’s big losers, dropping from 8 to 14.

Here’s the Expat Explorer’s top 10 countries for 2016:

  • 1.       Singapore
  • 2.       New Zealand
  • 3.       Canada
  • 4.       Czech Republic
  • 5.       Switzerland
  • 6.       Norway
  • 7.       Austria
  • 8.       Sweden
  • 9.       Bahrain
  • 10.   Germany

The Czech Republic has long been a top-rated destination for expats, but in the 2016 Explorer survey the country moved up. Way up.

Last year, the Czech Republic was rated as the 18th-best destination for expats in the 2015 Expat Explorer survey. This year, the country ranks a whopping 14 places higher.

It was biggest jump for any country in the poll.

While surveys like this seem to come out fairly frequently, the Czech Republic is being rated higher and higher as a top destination for expats in recent years.
