The monetary unit in the Czech Republic is the Czech crown (Česká koruna, Kč). The crown is divided into 100 heller (haléř). The following notes and coins are in circulation.

50 Crowns
Saint Agnes of Bohemia (1205-1282) was the daughter of King Premysl above. „Svatá Anežka“ founded an order of nuns, built one of the first hospitals in Prague, and was canonised in 1989, five days before the revolution.

100 Crowns
King Charles IV (1316-1378), Czech king and Holy Roman Emperor, founded Central Europe’s first university and built many of Prague’s great Gothic monuments in the Bohemian “golden age”.

200 Crowns
Jan Amos Komenský (1592 – 1670), Czech teacher, theologist, humanistic philosopher, writer and priest. Founder of didactic methods respecting child´s natural developmental needs.

500 Crowns
Božena Němcová (1820 – 1862), Czech novel writer, seen as a founder of the modern Czech literature. Has rewritten Czech folk and fairy tales.

1000 Crowns
František Palacký (1798 – 1876), Czech historician and politician. Author of the monumental „History of the Czech nation in Bohemia and Moravia“

2000 Crowns
Ema Destinnová (1878 – 1930), world famous Czech opera singer (soprano). Excelled especially in Bedřich Smetana, Strauss, Puccini, Wagner, Verdi works in Covent Garden, Metropolitan opera.

5000 Crowns
Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk (1850 – 1937), Czech philosopher, sociologist, politician, 1st Czech president, elected 1918, 1920, 1927 and 1934. Admired for his natural moral authority and political influence.

Czech Coins
The 10- and 20-heller coins ceased to be legal tender on 31 October 2003.  Due to this, when purchasing goods, the total amount will be rounded to the nearest 50 heller (ex: 30.2 Kč = 30.5 Kč, 30.8 Kč = 31 Kč).
