Since the very beginning this Czech theatre ensemble has belonged to the best-known representatives of the Czech Theatre School world-wide.

When performing at the international theatre festival in Edinburgh (Scotland) in 1962, the review published in the New York Times mentioned that this ensemble "brought back magic to the world stages". A principle, set by Jiří Srnec, the founder and art director of theatre, is based on creative use of a simple trick, so called "black cabinet".

A primitive form of this principles was known even in ancient China and later on it has been used by magicians. Partially it was used also in cinema (Mélies) and theatre (Stanislavský). The trick is that the black-dressed actors holding the requisites are not seen by the viewers against black background. That way the requisites and objects seem to move by themselves. Black Light Theatre Srnec is not, however, built on a straightforward visual effect but on a desire to convey an emotional story via the interaction of actors with objects who are lent their own souls – at least for the time of the performance.

The company has already had more than 300 tours - e.g., China, Russia, USA (Las Vegas, New York), South America, Syria, Israel, Greece, Africa, Germany, Australia, France, Turkey, Thailand, Bolivia, Great Britain, Honduras, Guatemala, Mexico, Monaco, South Korea, Norway, Sweden and many others. Its performances were seen by more than 5 million viewers. The company won countless international awards and in 2002 was chosen to represent Czech culture during the NATO Summit in Prague.
