Meredith Monk returns to Prague!

Meredith Monk & Vocal Ensemble
Thursday, November 18, 20:00 / Archa Theatre

American avant-garde composer, singer and choreographer Meredith Monk, who has inspired figures such as Björk and the Coen brothers, returns to Prague on November 18. The musical figure of world renown, vocal innovator and experimenter will perform in Prague for the first time in five years.

Meredith Monk – songwriter, singer, creator of operas and musical theatre works, films and installations has won a reputation as one of the most important creators of stage art. She is a pioneer of what is today known as “extended vocal technique” and “interdisciplinary performance.” In 1965 Monk began her groundbreaking investigations into vocals as a multipurpose instrument and subsequently founded and presented a number of solo compositions for vocals without accompaniment and for vocals and keyboard. Her work has inspired many artists, from Björk to Bang on a Can All Stars and the Coen brothers.

In 2001 Monk presented Magic Frequencies at the Archa Theatre and four years later a complete program for the 40th anniversary of her work. At the concert on November 18 Monk will perform with her three-member band and will present a cross-section of songs from the last four decades.

In addition to her concert at the Archa Theatre, Meredith Monk will hold a full-day workshop focussing on vocals and movement. More information about the workshop is available at www.hlasohled.cz.

Tickets for CZK 490 / students and seniors CZK 390 are on sale at the Archa Theatre and Ticketpro and Ticketportal outlets.
