French politician Marine Le Pen described Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš as an important ally within the European Union on Wednesday, following their meeting in Brussels.

Babiš attended a gathering of Patriots for Europe, the European Parliament group that includes his governing ANO movement. Le Pen published a photograph of their meeting alongside a message praising his role in the alliance.

Her comments emphasized their shared ambition to strengthen national interests and change the direction of European policy. They did not announce a specific agreement or policy initiative.

Le Pen praises Babiš’s return to government

In her statement on X, Le Pen referred to ANO’s victory in the 2025 parliamentary elections and Babiš’s subsequent return as Czech prime minister.

She said that, as a committed partner of Patriots for Europe, he would help “promote the voice of our nations” and redirect European policy to serve citizens.

Le Pen is a leading figure in France’s National Rally, known by its French abbreviation RN.

She also shared photographs of meetings with Tom Van Grieken, leader of Belgium’s far-right Vlaams Belang; former Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, chairman of Fidesz; and Santiago Abascal, leader of Spain’s far-right Vox.

Le Pen wished Abascal success in Spain’s forthcoming parliamentary elections, ČTK reported.

ANO belongs to Parliament’s third-largest group

Patriots for Europe has 85 members of the European Parliament, making it the chamber’s third-largest political group behind the European People’s Party and the Socialists and Democrats, according to ČTK.

Its members include National Rally, Fidesz, Italy’s League, Vox, ANO, the Netherlands’ Party for Freedom and Vlaams Belang. Austria’s Freedom Party and Portugal’s Chega also belong to the alliance.

Political groups bring together representatives from different countries to coordinate their work in the European Parliament. ANO’s membership places its Czech lawmakers alongside these parties in parliamentary negotiations and voting.

Wednesday’s meeting highlighted Babiš’s relationships within that alliance following his return to government. Le Pen’s description of him as a key EU partner was her political assessment, rather than an announcement of a new formal role.
