Art Exhibits from Around the World to Be Screened in Prague

This past year allowed us to see Benedict Cumberbatch play Hamlet live from the Royal National Theatre in London, The Berlin Philharmonic’s annual New Year’s Eve Concert live, and numerous other ballets, operas, and concerts from the relative comfort of Prague’s art house cinemas.

No worries if you missed those; the opportunity to be a global culture vulture—no passport required—continues well into 2017 with a series of “live” art exhibitions coming to the local big screen.

From Caracas to Cape Town, Berlin to Brisbane and now Prague, cinemas worldwide are showing these feature-length documentary films which give art lovers a glimpse inside the world’s most prestigious museums and galleries.

The films offer biographical details and stories interwoven with the arresting visuals that drew, for instance, half a million visitors to the once-in-a-lifestime Bosch exhibit. 

Phil Grabsky creator of the Exhibition on Film series, says of the project:

“One of the questions asked, perhaps most frequently, is ‘why would I go to the cinema to see an art exhibition?’ We offer an opportunity to see the exhibition if you can’t get a ticket or you don’t live in the country of the exhibition. Secondly we offer…all those hidden nooks and crannies that you and I can’t normally get to.”
