That’s about to change this month, however: on Sunday, September 18, visitors will get a rare chance to dive into Old Town’s sewer system for a guided tour.
The sewer tours have been made possible thanks to PVK, Prague’s waterworks and sewerage company, who are offering tours for willing participants free of charge.
The sewers lead from Old Town Hall down Pařížska street and underneath the Vltava at Čechův most, continuing under Korunovační street and Stromovka park in Prague 7 before winding up at the city’s Sewage Plant in Bubeneč.
Total length of the journey: three kilometers.
Registration to the event is open from today on the PVK website, and spots are quickly filling up. Tours are offered every half hour from 9:30 to 17:00.
(Update: that was fast – the tours are now fully booked.)
Entry will only be admitted to those in appropriate clothing and sturdy shoes. Smoking is prohibited, as is touching the sewer walls or ceiling or leaning over railings.
