New augmented reality museum brings 800 years of Prague's history to life

Spanning the medieval era to the Velvet Revolution, the museum took over three years to create and involved experts and researchers from nearly 100 fields.

A new augmented reality museum aiming to bring 800 years of Prague's history to life in an in an interactive way opened Tuesday in the Czech capital's city center near the Charles Bridge.

The Story of Prague museum, which took over three years and around 100 contributors from various fields to create, uses the latest technology to showcase the city's most interesting milestones through a virtual "ghost" tour guide.

On each of the three exhibition floors, visitors will experience a combination of authentic stories with film installations and audiovisual elements.

The first floor covers Prague's medieval and Renaissance periods. The second is devoted to more recent history like World War II and the subsequent communist regime. The third contains materials from the recent past to the present, including the 1989 Velvet Revolution that toppled communism and information on the dissident and later president Václav Havel.

In addition to the exhibits, the museum features a small cinema and an art room with views of Prague. It is open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Museum organizers say the goal is to convey Prague's rich history to visitors through cutting-edge technology and immersive experiences.
