Senior Lecturer in Media Studies and/or Journalism

The School of Journalism, Media and Visual Art, Anglo-American University, announces a search to fill the full-time position of Senior Lecturer in Media Studies and/or Journalism. Anglo-American University is the oldest private university in the Czech Republic, offering BA and MA programs with Czech and American accreditation in a uniquely international environment to students from more than 70 countries across the world. With more than 80% of students coming from outside the country, AAU is one of the most international universities in the world.


Responsibilities:

  • To teach 3 courses per semester, preferably Media Studies and/or Reporting
  • To systematically conduct research in the relevant field or related disciplines
  • To possibly guarantee a Bachelor study program of Journalism and Media Studies
  • To represent Anglo-American University in academia as well as to the public, and to take part in university governance and academic development
  • Networking in the field of study; organization of public lectures and events


Profile:

  • Advanced university degree (Ph.D.) in the field of media studies or journalism (the Czech degree of “doc.” or “prof.” is an advantage)
  • Strong academic publication record in recognized journals, including recent years
  • Active participation in research projects
  • Excellent English

Contract and Salary:

  • Full-time position
  • Employment to begin preferably in the Fall semester 2021 (September), or possibly in the Spring semester 2022 (February)
  • Contract for 3 years with the possibility to prolong indefinitely
  • CZK 35–70 000 gross (EUR 1350–2700, USD 1600–3200) or approximately CZK 28–54 000 net (EUR 1100–2100, USD 1300–2490) monthly for full-time employment, depending on academic rank (lower band for a proven research record, upper band for a full professor).
  • Average salary in the Czech Republic is CZK 38 500 gross (EUR 1450, USD 1750). Cost of living: 1-bedroom apartment EUR 500-700/month (outside center–in center) (USD 600-800); 3-bedroom apartment EUR 900-1200/month (outside center–in center) (USD 1100-1400); meal in a restaurant EUR 6-30 (inexpensive–meal for 2 people) (USD 7-36).
  • Healthcare insurance is automatically included.
  • Work permit for this position is not required.
