Description

Prague Spring 2021 dedicated to Igor Stravinsky’s music will take place all over Prague in the second half of May 2021.

The opening concert will feature Smetana’s Má vlast (My homeland), under the baton of one of today’s most sought-after conductors Vladimir Jurowski and the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin. The London Symphony Orchestra will perform at the festival with its new chief conductor, Sir Simon Rattle. Other highlights will certainly include hosting of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, during which Jakub Hrůša will take over the baton. Conductor Iván Fischer and his Budapest Festival Orchestra belong to the fixtures of the Prague Spring Festival, this time they will bring a purely Liszt program with the soloist Seong-Jin Cho, winner of the Chopin competition 2015.

In 2021, Prague Spring comes with a new project dedicated to contemporary music called Prague Offspring. Four foreign ensembles will perform projects prepared specifically for the Prague Spring. The chamber music weekend will offer seven concerts including the top Modigliani string quartet. The festival includes a dramaturgical line dedicated to the music of Igor Stravinsky, which will culminate in the final concert with the performance of the opera-oratorio Oedipus Rex.
