The 14th edition of Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space, the largest international festival of theater and stage design, will take place from June 6 to 16, 2019 at Výstaviště Praha (Prague Exhibition Grounds).

The Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space was established in 1967 to bring the best of design for performance, scenography, and theatre architecture to the front line of cultural activities to be experienced by professional and emerging artists as well as the general public.

The 14th edition of Prague Quadrennial celebrates the work of designers who imagine, devise, and shape active performance environments. This unique performance design and space exhibition presents works by artists, professionals, and students from over 79 countries through more than 600 live performances, talks, presentations, masterclasses, and workshops, all selected from over 17,000 applications submitted through open calls by an international team of curators. In addition to these, many national and student exhibitions will also present performances or lectures within their space and PQ+ offers a curated selection of recommended events also happening across Prague. The roofs of the Krizik Pavilions and the area surrounding the Krizik Fountain provide a lively atmosphere with pop-up catering, cafes, and bars.

Special guests at this year’s festival include illustrator Olivia Lomenech Gill, Italian opera director and scenographer Stefano Poda, and audiovisual artist Romain Tardy. Three thematic areas of interest are interwoven throughout the entire PQ program: Imagination, Transformation, and Memory. PQ presents three competitive exhibition sections: Exhibition of Countries and Regions, Student Exhibition, and Performance Space Exhibition. There will also be performative projects in public spaces – Formations and Site Specific Performance Festival. Fragments presents iconic objects and artifacts. The 36Q_° audiovisual project will take over the Malá sportovní hala (Small Sports Hall). Studio PQ showcases the work of emerging young artists. PQ Talks features lectures and discussions with the stars of world theatre and scenography. There will also be the _PQ Youth and Family program. The gala opening will take place on June 5 at Výstaviště Praha (Prague Exhibition Grounds).
