The Febiofest Film Festival, which will screen a wide range of films and provide a rich accompanying program, will be held this year on 21– 29 March 2019 in Prague and subsequently regions.

This year’s Febiofest will open with the latest film from acting legend Robert Redford, The Gentleman with a Gun. David Lowery’s biographical drama, based on real events, will present one of the most respected actors of recent decades as a thief and jailbreak specialist who earns public admiration. As Redford himself said, this is his last role before retirement.

The festival’s closing film will be a biographical drama based on the fate of the famous comedy duo Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy. The film reveals the little-known circumstances of their career and the end of their long-standing friendship during a post-war theater tour of England. Jon S. Baird’s Stan and Ollie by Steve Coogan and John C. Reilly will also be seen by viewers over the last two festival days.

The only competition section of the festival, entitled “New Europe”, will present ten ambitious films by emerging European filmmakers.

Febiofest will bring several world-renowned names to Prague. On 21 March 2019, Peter Fonda, an actor known primarily from the cult film The Wild Ride, which he wrote the screenplay for himself, performing in leading roles alongside Dennis Hopper and Jack Nicholson, will appear at the opening ceremony. The two-time Golden Globes winner will receive the Kristián Award for the Lifetime Achievement of World Cinema at Febiofest. Other guests of this year’s festival include: actress Jiřina Bohdalová, director Bille August, director and actor Louis Garrel, photographer Jan Saudek, who will sit in the jury of the competition “New Europe”; director Valeria Sarmiento, director György Pálfy, and many others.
