Music legend Tina Turner passed away Wednesday, May 24. Known as the “Queen of Rock 'n' Roll,” the multiple Grammy Award winner was familiar with Prague, visiting the capital multiple times.

Born in the U.S., she herself was an expat, gaining Swiss citizenship in 2013.

The video shows Turner in 1981 performing at Prague’s Lucerna Music Bar. This appearance was her first in Czechoslovakia, making her one of the few Western acts to play in the country during the communist era.

Her concert promoter Bryan Miller specialized in bringing Western acts to the then-Eastern bloc.

“She came here to entertain, to bring joy and happiness. For the hour or so we are here, the audience is in a different world, they can forget the problems. If I can do this, that's great. And the money doesn't matter,” Miller said.

Turner made two trips back to Prague following the Velvet Revolution. On her Wildest Dreams tour, she made an appearance in 1996 at Prague’s Ďolíček Stadium.

She met Czech President Václav Havel during her trip to Prague Castle and also behind the scenes at the stadium.

In 2009, she made her farewell visit to Prague when she brought her Tina! 50th Anniversary Tour to the O2 Arena, drawing an estimated 16,000 spectators.

Turner is one of the best-selling individual recording artists of all time, having sold over 200 million records worldwide.

After a tumultuous and abusive marriage to Ike Turner, Tina embarked on a solo career in the 1980s. Her album "Private Dancer" (1984) became a massive hit, earning her four Grammy Awards and establishing her as a force in the music industry.

On the iTunes Czechia singles charts, Turner's single "The Best" is currently at number one.
