The official registration period has come and gone, but getting into a Prague public school is far from guaranteed. Limited classroom capacity and high demand mean many families don’t secure a spot in the city's often frustrating enrollment process in the first, second, or even third round. The issue affects both Czech and expat families across all education levels—from state-run nurseries and kindergartens to elementary schools, gymnasiums, and universities.

While the city is legally required to place children of compulsory school age (those turning 5 by Sept. 1), this doesn’t mean you'll land a spot at your neighborhood school. Placement often depends on where vacancies exist within your district, and final decisions may continue trickling in throughout the summer.

If that feels too uncertain, or if your family is seeking a more personalized approach to education, like bilingual programs or smaller class sizes, we’ve compiled a list of schools still accepting applications for the upcoming school year.
