Four Czech Gripen fighter jets, deployed in Latvia in early April to secure the air space of the Baltic countries, returned to Czechia today. The Czech military sent five Jas-39 Gripens to the Baltics but one of them was withdrawn as of September in order to secure the Slovak air space. The mission of the Czech pilots was supposed to end in July but Latvia asked for it to be prolonged because there was no one to substitute for the Czech fighter aircraft. Czech pilots and staff served over 40 flights. They were mainly dealing with non-communicating Russian aircraft and other planes that did not respect the rules of international air-space traffic.
