| I'd choose Brno in preference to Prague; it's built on a more manageable scale and there's less of a sense of living in "Washington-on-the-Vltava", but it's bug enough to have a lively cultural life, and it's just over the border from Vienna. The town centre is attractive, but beware of the belt of housing estates on the outskirts - not a place to choose to live.

Expat life is more fun with like-minded company of the sort that doesn't just hang around in bars grumbling. If you're brilliant and cultured, I'd like to talk to you. If you're a nymphomaniac as well, I can live with that.

| I own a farm around 20 minutes outside Brno - so I go into Brno sometimes. I must admit I find Brno pretty boring. It is OK if you enjoy living in the provinces - but has none of the cosmopolitan buzz of Prague. Having said that Brno really does seem to be set to be boom-town in the next few years - there is lots of regeneration going on there and prices of apartments and houses are zooming upwards.
In terms of Ceske Budejovice - I have been there only twice, staying with friends for the weekend. My friends love living there - but I found it too small and quiet. |

| Hi,
I lived and worked in Ceske Budejovice for 10 months and I am still a regular visitor. It is small, and is no comparison to Prague (or even Brno!) but there is enough to do when the weathers good. Summer is the best time, lots of German & Austrian tourists, and a real buzz around the place. Nightlife is okay at the weekend, but very quiet during the week.
I've only been to Brno once, I enjoyed it. I agree with Ledni, Brno is set to be booming over the next few years (regeneration, Ryanair dircet flights from London etc..)
, unfortunately it will become very expensive:-(
I guess it really depends on what you are looking for?? |

| My girlfriend is from Brno although we both live in Prague now. We travel there about once a month, and I must say I really like it. There are some excellent pubs, a big enough centre for something to be happening most nights, admittedly not on the scale of Prague.
And if you are into mountain biking, the surrounding coutryside is pretty good for day trips... |

| Brno vs Ceske Budejovice
Pros for Brno:
- Better night life
- more cultural events
- Proximity to vineyards
- in general Moravians are friendlier then Czechs
- proximity to Vienna
- couple of degrees warmer
- more dynamic
Pros for CB
- Proximity to Cesky Krumlov
- nice town square
- home of Budvar
I have spent a week in Brno and a visited CB a few times for day trips. If I had to choose I would go for Brno. |
