Today I had my first opportunity to eat in Tandoor - the authentic Indian restaurant. Wonderfull food experience, very friendly staff, opportunity to taste original Indian beer and even the wine together with a nice ambient Indian music creates an extraordinary experience not just for foodies. And on the top of everything - it´s very close to the Prague airport. Martin B.

I had heard good reports about Tandoor, and as I've been looking for decent, reasonably priced Indian food for a while, I was cautiously optimistic. Sadly, Tandoor turned out to be another disappointment. The vegetable pakora was extremely bland, and I don't think it was freshly made on the premises. The chicken korma which followed could have been good if it weren't for the excessive amounts of sugar it contained. The coconut in a korma should makes it sweet enough, but I began to wonder if it should have been served in a cukrarna rather than an Indian restaurant. The naan bread was bafflingly sugary too, and the slices were rather on the small side. I know reviewing is a subjective process, and each person has a different experience, but I did feel that Tandoor 'didn't do what it says on the tin'.

I have to agree with the many positive reviews provided here, as well as with the sentiment that the negative reviews seem to have been provided by the restaurant's competitors. As a long time supporter of Tandoor, I don't believe it's necessary to provide another review of the food, which is the best Indian in Prague, particularly value for money-wise. Let me just suggest that rather than reading poorly written and caustic fake reviews interested parties simply try for themselves. It's unmistakeably good.

Yesterday I was in Tandoor for Indian dinner,Some of people was there, between them maximum is
smoking and I am feeling very bad with them,I dont
understand how they get the permission of Indian restaurant in Central Europe.Ventilation is out of working and all of the smelt came from kitchen.Food is prepare by non professional cooker.Service quality is lower and oily, price is higher.I shall prefer to go in real Indian restaurant where customer will get real tasty of Indian food not fast food.I am sorry to pass my time and money.-----

I hate reviewing, because frankly its your personal opinion. But I cannot be silent when I see the bad "reviews" written here. In short, Tandoor is the best indian resturant in Prague, if not the whole czech republic. The food is great, spicy, the people working there are great (and quick, and speak czech, english&spanish), I have never paid for getting food delivered and best of all - the food actually tastes indian!

Other plusses: good prices, good beer, excellent selection of dishes, clean&nice facilities. Lots of vegetarian options - the dal tarka is excellent, by the way - and the food is fresh, not greasy in the slightest. I would say its one of pragues few vegetarian-friendly resturants. Yes, its not a fancy gourmet resturant (i.e they have big portions, and they dont overcharge you), but the food tastes great. Not like the dry and tasteless things they serve at some fancy resturants/clubs that call themselves indian.

Tandoor is a special place, with its own charm, that most resturants simply dont have. I learned about it from my indian neighbours, but please do tell me how they were completely wrong about how good, authentic indian food should taste like.

Only minuses is that they dont have kheer, and the place can get crowded (but it has never been any problem with too crowded or too smoky any time I have been there the last 3 year) now that its too cold to sit outside. It is a 20 minute tram ride from the center, but for those that are obsessed with eating in the city center can enjoy their klobaskas at Vaclav.

This is definately the worst quality of Indian food we tried in Prague... 2 starters and two mains and ended up leaving nearly all of it. No spices, very oily and the service was real slow.

According to me, an indian, living in Prague for the past 6 odd years and having eaten at most if not all the indian joints here, this is the best you can get.

Pros:
1. this is the only place where the food comes as close to the original as one can make it with the ingredients that one can procure here.

2. the people are extremely friends, unlike most czech restaurants where the people are uninterested if at all.

3. the beer is fresh and comparatively inexpensive

4. the portions are awesome for the $ you pay.

cons:
1. the ambiance, yes could be better, in their defense i go there to eat not for the ambiance.

2. smoke-filled if people start smoking inside, ventilation could improve.

seeing that i go there to eat and not for the ambiance, albeit its many cons i still give it a 90%

I would suggest one does give it a try. I would suggest the vindaloo, aloo-paratha, lamb here is celestial.

I've been to Tandoor often (I live nearby) and understand the range of reviews for this restaurant.

We used to get quick and attentive service, but it seems that as the take-out business has increased, the dining room has suffered. The last time we were there, the manager was away, (the mice played) and the service was simply horrible; our mixed up orders took forever, and we could just forget about ever getting the second round of beers we ordered.

The food is normally above average (pretty good Indian by Prague standards) and on a good night for the price it's one of the better meals to be had in that area of Prague. Always satisfied with the korma, jal frezi, vindaloo. I've only been truely disappointed by one dish - their Chicken Tikka Masala, worst I've ever had in a curry house - and they do have items on the menu that they simply never offer, particularly naan.

Oh, and the dining room looks like a herna bar.

That said, it's worth a try if you're craving Indian on that side of town.

This restaurant is the biggest dissappointment I have ever visited.Dirty,un pleasant service, the menu is mostly not available-depnds how much the cook wants to do-lazy people.

I counted over 70 flies, the kitchen is dirty which I could see through the dirty curtain, and two people try to serve tables, prepare food, and do home delivery.

The waiter who was smoking cigarrettes most of the time was very rude.

There was a home delivery ready to go waiting to be delivered for over half an hour.

The worst place of any where I have ever been, anywhere in the world.

Dont go there

I second the good review of this place and want to voice my appreciation for this restaurant and their good food. If you are an Indian food expert maybe you won't like it, but for someone who eats Indian food occasionally, this restaurant is a much better deal than the other higher priced ones in the center. I don't care if they don't have a "proper" naan or if they don't really do tandoor cooking, what I've had from here (some palak, bhuna, and vindaloo dishes) has all been great and I've been very happy with the quality of the meat they use.
Just don't expect the place to look as good as it does on their web site, they did some creative photoshopping on that image, it really is a small place, although they have a patio for when the weather is good.
In my opinion, Prague can use many more restaurants like Tandoor!
"No naans"

Second time I've been to this place; finally they've taken the naan's off the menu.
Think everyone should ask for one all the same, till they get the message...why don't they all do a cheese naan!
We had a butter chicken, lamb bhuna and lamb palak.
They were all reasonable and the mango lassi was better than resonable.
Not the best I've had, but as good as the rest in Prague and cheaper than most.
Not sure about the fellow suggesting you have to be an Indian to appreciate Indian food, though. Most of the worst curries I've had were in India!

The dining room is small and ugly but the food is the best Indian we've found in the city. 2 of us had starters, mains and beers and got out for under 500kc including tip.

The meat samosas and lamb jal frezi were both outstanding, fresh and properly cooked.

Give it a go, you won't be disappointed.

My wife and I have been going to Indian Restaurant Rasoi for some time now. Food there is great but the prices are really high, so we can afford to go there only once in a while.

After reading the reviews about tandoor, we decided to try it out yesterday and I have to say it was really disappointing.

Firstly the name is misleading as the place does not seem to have any tandoor (or no naan's).

Samosas were really terrible as they were completely bland and had only mashed boiled potatoes. The madras dish tasted like it was made from readymade sauce. Parathas were really thick on the edges and green peas were really hard :(

Have to admit that lassi was fine though.

I guess the difference may be that I am Indian and we cook Indian food at home somedays.

I will recommend people to go to Rasoi once (be aware of the prices there though) and then compare the food

Perhaps I shouldn't compare an indian restaurant from the Czech Republic with one from my native UK especially when I've never been to India! But, in the 2 and a half years I've lived in Prague I've striven, in vain, to find a pallatable restaurant from the indian sub-continent... Until now.

On a whim, and given that it is walking distance from my place of work, myself and 2 colleagues wandered into the Tandoor restaurant to be quite pleasantly surprised. The bland decor and nonchalant ambience are juxtaposed with sublime food. Today I chose a lamb madras, my colleagues ordering a Korma and a Biryani dish, and I must say my tastebuds recieved quite a treat. The flavour is bursting and the spiciness rounded, along with a simple but attentive service.

Moreover I was delighted to recieve a bill for just 550 CZK including drinks (2 of which I needed to soothe the firey mouth, yes I am a wimp!)... for three of us. Prices comparable to any 'normal' Czech restaurant.

You can bet that myself and my colleagues will be frequenting this eatery more often and I recommend that you do the same.

And..... they deliver!

As it should be - almost like in Britain!

But seriously, like the other reviewer said, this is far and away the best indian food I have had in Prague. I've been to most of the other main ones (Taj mahal, Himalaya, Haveli etc) and this blows them away in the flavour stakes. I don't normally order my favourite dish here- lamb jalfrezi - because I end up dissapointed. Not so with this place. The other half says the same about her chicken korma.

Around 120kc for most of the lamb mains, so pretty cheap in comparison to the competition. Its worth noting that in the 10 or so times I have ordered from them, they have never had naan.

The only downside is delivery times. I live in Letna which is not exactly far from their restaurant, but it still takes them at least an hour, often 1.5, so factor this into account when ordering. Probably a sign of their success. Hopefully as they get more established this will change.

By far the best Indian food I have had so far in Prague.

Tonight I ordered butter chicken and a chicken vindaloo, along with samosas and rice pilao.

Butter chicken and the vindaloo were excellent, they actually had flavor and the sauce was nice and thick.

The samosas were a little bit bland which is the only reason I'm not rating as 10.

Best part is they will deliver from P6 to P2 at a cheap price.
