"Awful Service Ruined Our Evening"

Went the night before Valentine's with my fiancé but the service ruined our evening. From the moment we walked in we knew that the staff couldn't care less if we had a nice evening. Not even acknowledged when we walked through the door. Service with a frown comes to mind. We were sat beside the noisy open kitchen (chefs laughing and acting like idiots) and when they finally agreed to let us move to another table they began to play this really weird depressing techno music, which totally jarred with the Zen design of the place. Our friends have had similar bad experiences of rude staff here and at Clear Head and now I know why. Had it out with the staff and the manager. Owner and management needs to take a serious look at its points of service. Never going back. Avoid.

The place is very nice decorated. We like the food very much but the staff service, has been one of the worst ones we have experienced here in Prague.

Quality, inventive food at a very reasonable price. My favourites are warm spinach crepe (starter) and lasagna. We chose a table downstairs, which is lovely for an evening meal. The decor has certainly been well thought out and adds to the atmosphere. I would definitely advise booking in advance. This restaurant is a great option for vegetarians or for anyone looking for something a little different.

"Maitrea near Old Town Square"

I stumbled upon Maitrea quite by mistake. My girlfriend and I had been wandering around the area looking for some kind of place to have dinner. We'd actually thought about going to a steakhouse the same night, but down a different street, Maitrea seemed to be a more unique restaurant with pretty decent prices (for the area).

Our first visit there was wonderful. The food was spot-on, and the service was quite good as well. I have been back a few times since, and the service is generally good. Sometimes there's a bit of a wait, but I suppose that's understandable considering how busy the restaurant often gets. The food has been almost always delicious. There have been a couple menu items that I'd not order again, though.

All in all, however, I'd suggest Maitrea as a solid place to eat if you're looking for quality vegetarian food in the Old Town area. If you're willing to cast a little bit wider of a net, though, I'd encourage a stop in at Radost FX near I.P. Pavlova as well.

I'll agree with the other posters that the service is definitely a little on the spotty side. they definitely never have enough staff on upstairs and they have got my order wrong on more than one occasion.

The food, however, is great. Reasonably priced. The wine isn't bad either.

I eat here on a weekly basis and am prepared to but up with the occasional lack of service for the standard of the food, but I can see that for others it's a no brainer.

i just went to' Maitrea restaurant'. i ordered eggplant, tofu, kind of curry sauce with rice, which was ok until i found there was no tofu. so, at least i wanted to ask, there were three waiters but no one heard me,so i waved my hand- no one saw me...
anyway finally one waiteress came, i explained, but she doubt, so i show her what i was having, she said she gonna ask cook.. 5minutes later she came and told me do i want extra tofu ,which sounds like extra charge, even she didn't say sorry, just said quick words and never came back tilll i finished my meal.
Maitrea is kind of decent restaurant, but not sure of service.

It's hard to find good vegetarian food in Prague, but you'll find it here - beautiful, carefully-designed decor too.
I recommend the 'Czech classic: vepro-knedlo-zelo' (pork, dumplings, sauerkraut) - veggie version. It's fantastic; you may never want to return to the meat version after trying this!

As a vegan living in Prague and I thought that it'd be safe to enjoy meals at Maitrea which has a unique and extensive vegetarian menu which is also vegan-friendly. However - after eating here multiple times I've come to the conclusion that you can never really be sure what you're getting. I've gotten food poisoning TWICE after eating here. I suspect that food which I was told was vegan really wasn't. Also, the waitstaff seem inattentive to the needs of customers and spend more time eating or talking to eachother than making sure customers have everything they've asked for - which has also happened to me several times. The food is good if you get what you ask for and the cook who happens to be working that evening is good, but I and several other people I've talked to about Maitrea think it's just not worth it to have a bad experience on every other visit to this place. I won't be going back.
