Went to the 17th anniversary party Saturday night. Really great atmosphere all night. I was there from 7pm. Free finger food and beer until 8, a great idea. Cowboy/girl theme, barmaids and waitresses in great costumes, live honky tonk music and more alcohol = perfect party! Roll on the 18th.

I have started to use the original Jama pub/restaurant on a regular basis these past couple of weeks. When you find a pub selling beer for 25 kc in the very centre of Prague it is rude not to go back, and back again. I have a lot of afternoons off work,so i can get down between 4 and 6. The Happy Hours.
Plus the girls working there make it hard to ever leave anyway. Every hour feels to be Happy here.

Just want to mention how great a Xmas lunch i had with my friends at Jama on Christmas Day.
No turkey, which was a shame, but roast duck with dumplings. Though we did have some turkey with our soup. The classic Jama Hot Brownie for dessert made it a most enjoyable meal.
As a group of English expats away from our families the girls working made our day feel really good.
Thanks a million ladies.
Same next year (but with turkey on the 25th! Please!)

Had the perfect honeymoon in Prague, walking miles in the process. During one long walk my husband pointed out Jama 'the hollow'. It was a good choice. We spent an hour or 3 every day here. We loved the food and the staff treated us so good we felt like old friends. We had breakfast, lunch and late-night meals over the course of our stay and all were generous in proportion as well as value for money. The bar closes at 1 am. At which point the bar next door would take us in when we wanted an all-night party. Can't wait to be able to holiday in Prague again. A really beautiful and fun city.

As an expat with not a lot of money (i teach) it is always a blessing that bars like Jama exist. Cheap beer and good food at a good price is what i need and receive at Jama. The staff always put a smile on my face. What more can i want? Maybe some sport on the television...but,hey,i drink and eat cheap here then head to a sportsbar. I reccommend Jama's burgers, they may not be the best in the world but you have to go a long way to beat them here in Prague.

i discovered Jama thanks to my fellow southerner Becky as she has live in Prague much longer than me. I only arrived 2 months ago. I've tried a few restaurants and so far Jama has been the place i have been most comfortable eating in. I tried the famous Jama burger and was struggling to clear my plate. It is a big burger. I enjoyed the background music as it played some of my all-time favourite American songs. Most important of all i didn't have to part with too much cash. So i give Jama a 9/10 and will visit again
"Breakfast for 99Kc? Yes Please!!!"

So, I stumbled into Jama this Sunday, nursing one of my more severe hangovers, to see what could be done about this self-induced malady.
To my delight, not only did they have a regular brunch menu, they now offer a special Summer Breakfast...I would usually create my own breakfast from the a la carte menu, but my brain that day couldn't decide on a suitable combination to cure my ailing stomach...it seems Jama had already decided on that combination:
Eggs cooked to order, English style sausages, crispy bacon, fried potatoes, hash browns and half a grilled tomato.
Everything was cooked perfectly, especially the scrambled eggs sprinkled with chives, and it all arrived within 10 minutes of ordering.
Then comes my least favourite part of the dining experience...the bill. But in this case it was mere 99Kc, which is so gentle on the wallet that I will certainly be returning next weekend for one of the nicest and cheapest breakfasts around!

I've read all of the reviews, been with people in this place before, and to be honest it always looks hit and miss. This was my 2nd or 3rd time eating there and yet again i feel disappointed in the quality of the food.

HOW people can call this place the best expat bar or even THE best bar in Prague is a joke to be honest. It's a reasonable place to have a beer but the service is certainly no better than most places in Prague, maybe even slightly worse.

Ordered a chilli burger and it turned up and looked quite reasonable. However, when eating it it was very dry, the chips were pretty bad and overall it was very disappointing.

Then i got the bill...and they had automatically added 10% service to the bill. This time I was with other English friends and it's very funny how they only do this when you speak English.. Every other time i have ordered/spoken Czech they have NEVER added this automatically.

Obviously they are hoping that i am just "another stupid foreigner" who wouldn't notice and just pay and/or add some more..

"Good American service??" That other reviewer is a total joker!!

Save your time and head over to Bohemia Bagel in Holesovice where the food is a million times better, cheaper and the service is a lot more friendly and doesn't take the michael out of you by automatically adding 10% irrespective of the service you receive.

So by invitation I returned to Jama. I was going to try the burger again to see if it was just a fluke before; new cook maybe, trying out new products? The restaurant business can be quite involved. My previous review was unduly harsh, and I aim to rectify it.
I ordered the cheddar burger with steak fries. I got the cheddar burger with steak fries. No mistake with my order, as I have read in numerous reviews of places around town. Together with a nice, tall and cold beer, I was set.
And what a difference a week came make! The burger patty was still thick, but soooo juicy and tasty this time. Meat can be tricky, and can dry up quickly. But this one was right on the money. The cheddar is a new brand, and melted very nicely with proper taste. The tomatoes were good sized and tasted like tomatoes should taste. The red onions were plentiful and fresh.
There never has been a problem with their fries. The steak fries are great, and their secret spice blend they use on them is the clincher.
Add on top of this the fact that service was excellent, and you have what you should expect in a dining experience: consistent quality food, service and atmosphere. I like the decor there. It beats some generic layout, or some nouveau posh theme that is not what most guys want. I actually don't recall ever having bad service there when I ate.
So Jama is back in my good graces, and I hope many of you will try it for the first time or give it another shot. I would also add that should you be disappointed with a meal there, speak with the owner, Max Munson. He's a terrific guy and very easy to talk with.

After viewing the Battle of the Burger, Episode #1, I did my own taste test of the three restaurants mentioned plus one not mentioned and my conclusions came out the same as the supposedly randomly selected testers in the video as I overall preferred the Jama burger. But beyond the food one must, I believe, look at the atmosphere and service as well because bad service and ambiance can turn a decent meal into a bad one. In this area I must say that Jama far out distanced the other restaurants/pubs I visited. The service is exceptional and it is without a doubt the best expat pub in Prague and perhaps the BEST pub in Prague. You can tell it is is American owned and operated. A definite place to go for drinks, socializing and food.

Let me preface this by saying, I am very easy to please when it comes to food. I used to go to Jama for the Sunday wings. They were great! Large, plentiful and very tasty. Now, apparently, that has changed. What has also changed is the burger. Just yesterday I watched a video where 3 people voted on the best burgers in town, and they all raved about Jama's. So, I went and paid 175czk for their cheddar burger.
What a disappointment! The bottom bun was wet with grease, so when I picked up the burger, the bun fell apart on me. I was forced to hold it together while eating and finally to eat with a fork. A burger? I give them credit for the large pattie. That was proper. It was cooked okay (medium rare to medium), but rather bland. I wanted to taste this great burger; a juicy, tasty burger with nice tomatoes and cheese. Instead, I got a bland chunk of meat, tiny tomatoes slices from the end of the tomato and over heated cheese.
The fries are decent. I'll not make that mistake again. Are there different cooks at different times that are so much better than others? Shouldn't there be a standard? Also, they charged me for the fries even though the menu clearly states they come with the burger. Nice atmosphere, good service, but not worth the price.
"terrible food, worse service"

This place has got to have some of the worst service in the Czech Republic, and that's really saying something. I must have waiting almost half an hour before I could even get the waitress to hand me a menu, plus another half an hour before I could make my order and get some food, which turned out to be way too greasy and way too salty, but otherwise tasteless. Plus the waitress was rude the entire time I was there, nearly dropped my plate of food on me, and would make a big huff and roll her eyes anytime she had to do anything that was actually part of her job description.

So skip Jama. You can get better food and service on a SkyEurope flight.

Friday night, I took my entire team to Jama for dinner and drinks to celebrate the end of a recent project - the atmosphere was very lively, good choice of music but above all, the service was very pleasant and cheerful and the food was fantastic.

I've eaten at Jama on an off for the past 8 years and if recent standards are anything to go by, you are in for a good time and quality eats. Try the Mexcan Talir (Mex Plate) - it's bigger than your head.
"2 points"

I have been frequenting Jama for a little over 3 years now and would like to make 2 points. First and for me the most important factor in any establishment is SERVICE. Jama is a 10 for 10 is this area. It speaks well of the ownership and is no surprise that it is owned by an American. Customer service in the Czech Republic is almost non-existent and it is extremely satisfying to know that I can go someplace and be treated as a customer and not a nuisance. Second point. The food in general and the burgers specifically. As I mentioned, I've been going to Jama for 3 years and the only complaint I have ever had has been consistency which, in the past 6 to 9 months, seems to have been remedied. I go to Jama for the service and for my weekly burger "fix". Don't compare the burgers to McDonalds, as one person here has, that's apples an oranges. As Americans know McDonalds belongs along side White Castle/Crystals in terms of comparisons and taste. This is a restaurant/pub and a good one, not a fast food stop. I believe it IS the "best" burger in Prague.

Was there with a few friends for some beer and wings. The wings were dry and rubbery, the hot wings smelled and tasted of tabasco. And then we went for the burgers. Its really tough to make a burger this bad.

And to make things worse, the lady serving our table was playing with a dog brought in by another patron, turned around and went on serving everyone with out even washing her hands. Which really did it for me.

Try other places if you want a decent burger. Give this a miss.

I was disapointed with the their burger"s as it had been boasted as the best burger in town. I also had the chilli burger and as mentioned in the review below this was made with tin beans and a burger which I would say was pretty average. The best part was the fries and I have to admit the day I went the service was good and friendly.
I would like to give this place one more chance before I condem it too much.

Before going to Jama, I'd heard and read nothing but good things about the place. Some people even claim they have the best burgers in Prague. That may so be, I'm not American, so maybe I'm not the best judge of burgers. All I can say is that you even get better burgers at McDonalds! And I don't even like McDonalds... The burgers themselves were kind of alright. I had the chilli burger, which was your standard burger with some chilli made from tinned beans on it. My friend had the cheddar burger, which was a bit dry. Pretty good fries though. But not enough to either make me go back or to want to recommend this place to anybody. The only good thing about it was their small garden, which was quite nice and relaxing.
"Jama is not what it used to be anymore"

I have to say that I was very disappointed on our last visit to Jama, where we went with group of friends night before the New Year's eve.
The service was very slow and to get beer took forever, food came also very late and some of our friends got their food even 25minutes later than the rest of us. My boyfriend's favorite chicken wings in Prague are history, the one served now are just not as good as it used to be and my Caesar salad was not Caesar salad at all, it was just plate full of lettuce salad with non tasty oil dressing with no sign of Caesar.
So we were not happy with the service and the food but we still were forced to pay the 10% service fee just because we were group of 10. Service fee is something you choose to pay if you are happy and not if you can not wait to get out of the place. Besides, the staff here is not paid the minimum wage as in the US so the demanded service fee here does not make sense.
Sorry to say, but I would not recommend this place to any of my friends anymore. Prague has much more better places to offer and it is a shame because at one time, we liked Jama very much.

I go to Jama twice a month for the brunch menu. Love the french toast, tastes just like home.

The burgers are also great, the wings can be nuclear hot and the nachos are tasty. The salsa doesn't taste like ketchup with sugar in it either.

It was also a good comfortable place to watch the super bowl this year and last.

Really cracking burger, real chunky chips as well! Very nice.

Nice place inside, English speaking staff. Close to Wen Square, but doesnt feel like it gets full of toursists, quite discreet from the outside.

Small internet cafe available inside and WiFi as well I think, free at some specific times (not sure when).

Have to recommend Jama for their awesome burgers and burritos too. A great place to take your friends and drink the night away - surounded by familiar American voices.
