The original Prague cattle slaughter area served its purpose from the year 1895 until 1983, when it underwent its conversion to urban marketplace. Completely preserved  original industrial buildings currently house a range of retail and catering facilities. The most significant include Alza, Bata, Mountfield, Schlecker and renowned dance club with a restaurant Sasazu.

There is also a vegetable market, the largest in Prague, with  daily fresh fruit and vegetables from small scale farmers. The vegetable market expands on Saturdays to farmers' markets offering homemade sausages, fish, cheese, honey and other products.  Prague’s Market is also known for its vast Asian market and a famous Vietnamese fast food bistro offering traditional food. Glass boutiques offer a range of goods from car accessories, handbags, jewelry, housewares, souvenirs, textiles, shoes, wooden picture frames and glassware.
