The best thing about Novy Smichov the shopping mall at Andel is hands down their lovely Holmes Place gym on the top floor, quite popular with both the expats and some local celebrities, also known as the "posh" gym - although if you try it and see the difference for yourself (accessible, neat, professional), you might as well fall in love with it and buy a membership.

Other than that, there is a scary Tesco (always crowded, always short of essential stuff, always overcharging you) - personally I prefer to do my shopping at the Albert which is just across the road. There is a popular Palace cinema and all the usual shops and cafes, plus some internet cafes, restaurants, fast food, hairdresser and a bowling center... The Marks&Spencer food section here is nice and big.
All in all, not the best, but the opening hours, parking and the convenient location are some of the important pros you might find decisive.

The mall is quite well-known for the pickpockets, plus you can always see some drunk homeless people hanging out outside the main entrance, so be careful.
"Carrefour / Eden - hot kids?"

Calling your shopping mall "Eden" is pretty questionable but this recent addition to Pr. 10 has good transport connections and parking plus a big, 2-floor Carrefour with the full range of goods. Went late on Saturday afternoon & it was a pleasant experience unlike their crowded madhouse at Andel! Plus other shops & places to eat & drink.
Outside is a great water feature / fountain which was full of kids splashing about on a hot day - not sure this is what the architect intended but a good tip for parents with small hot children!

You can't live with Novy Smichov (if you live near Andel), and yet, you can't live without it. It boasts its self-coined 'hypermarket' Carrefour. Hyper must refer to the number of people that squeeze into this place. Or perhaps to the omnipresent paranoid 'Men In Black' security guard team.

However, Novy Smichov is also an oasis. Free toilets, a fantastic movie theatre and a wealth of stores. You can't beat the 29kc cappuccino with warm pecan roll from either of the two Nescafes. And there is always parking available. What more can be said about the uniqueness of a shopping mall designed to be like every other one in the world...aaahhh.... globalisation.
