My son has now been training with Petr for three years, starting when he was just 3 years old. Petr has a great ability to train at this age, keeping the training interesting, & mixing coordination skills through a variety of fun exercises with and without a racquet and ball that has helped my son immensely with other sports.
Now in his 3rd year, my son has competed in his first tournament in Prague, showing himself more than capable of playing against other kids his age from the various academies in Prague and the Czech Republic. He always loves his training, and the locations both on the Island and indoor during winter are perfect. I strongly recommend any other father or mother looking for a sporting activity for their son or daughter to try Petr Stepanek's academy.

Tennis clubs in Prague appear to provide good facilities provided you have a group to players, but its not easy for a new arrival to find English speaking partners at a similar level. I solved the problem last summer by taking some lessons with Petr on the courts on the island under the Legii bridge (the one between Cafe Savoy and the National Theatre). This has to be one of the most beautiful tennis settings in Europe where one is cooled off by the flow of the Vlatava on either side of the courts.
In addition to providing excellent coaching and insights, Petr introduced me to a couple of people of similar standard who I now play regularly with. He is also promising to provide playing/networking events during 2011.

It was a rewarding experience to have Petr Stepanek as a coach. His keen sense of observation identified movements (or lack of :-)) which prevents me to produce the strokes effectively.
His analysis and explanations were clear and easy to understand. Consequently, the exercises he proposed to improve the technique made sense. I am happy with the results.
The relaxed but well organised coaching sessions were in one of Prague's scenic location. Next time I visit the city, I will definitely bring my racket and contact Petr again.

I would like to highly recommend a great instructor Mr. Stepanek. He was a great and made me improve at tennis.
He knew how to understand easily. Still I keep playing tennis in my country after moving from Prague. Coaches and friends were surprised at my power tennis.
I was so lucky to meet Pan Stepanek and tennis court close to my house.

I was very very lucky to meet such a great coach right from the scratch of my tennis efforts. Thanks to Petr I´ve quickly got very good groundings. So in 3 month time I was (surprisingly) able to face some advanced players:-) All that by means of attending decent lessons in surroundings of the picturesque city as Prague definitely is. I can´t imagine better choice for both relaxing and efficient tennis work-out!

I've been playing tennis for quite a while and never learned the proper footwork and the use of my wrist. It seemed that my previous instructors (in the U.S.) insisted on a firm wrist and never mentioned much about footwork. After a few lessons with Petr, I've realized what I was missing. The use of wrist and footwork helped immediately and the effect was tremendous. Looking back, I don´t know how I could have played without knowing these two very important aspects of the game. Thanks to Petr, now I have a real foundation to build on. I am looking forward to taking more lessons with Pert this summer if I can make it to CZ again

I would like to add my recommendation to the growing list of recommendations for Petr Stepanek. Petr is an excellent coach with an eye for mechanics of the game. My technique and form have dramatically improved in the three plus months that I've been working with Petr. He approaches the game, and his students, with respect and professionalism. If you want to improve your game, here in Prague, call Petr.

I would like to recommend tennis lessons with Petr Stepanek. I have been learning to play from scratch and after 3 months I am able to play a decent game. Petr is super nice, laid back, speaks fluent English and has en excellent eye to spot all the mistakes that you are making! He pays a great deal fo attention to the footwork and can help you improve by giving really good advice. Lessons are not stressfull but the results are really there!

I have now been a member for 3 months and in
that time I have to say being coached by Petr
has been a pleasure. Not only is he very professional, but he is also quite laid back, so you
can also have laugh and joke with him. But in that
time my game has really improved thanks to his
advice and patience. I would recomend this to
anyone who is interested in improving their game or
joining in with other members when there are
regular tournaments organised. The school is also
set in very pretty location near Charles Bridge.

Petr is a very professional and effective coach who provides sound instruction without the lesson feeling like the hard work which one worries about when looking for tennis lessons. I have really enjoyed building up aspects of my game which had let me down in the past, and of course improving my fitness in the process - not a bad thing in itself! There is also a tennis club with a warm atmosphere on weekends where Petr's pupils get to take on each other and try to show off their enhanced skills. Often we get to meet afterwards and enjoy a drink together. If you have been worrying about where on earth you can get decent lessons at a very fair price, then let me be the first to calm those worries and point you in Mr Stepanek's direction.

I've only had five lessons with Petr Stepanek, and I must say the results have been positive and almost immediate. I have taken lessons in California, where I learned a thing or two, but my coach let me go on making mistakes in my groundstrokes, serves and volleys without correcting me. Now, Petr is helping me to unlearn my bad habits, and replace them with better ones - he's not satisfied with just feeding balls to you, he wants your overall game to improve and he is very capable of making that happen.
Also, he has been organizing regular Saturday afternoon doubles sessions which are a great way to practice my new skills in real situations. Everyone is friendly and it's not super competitive, so no temper tantrums, stare-downs or fist fights yet (but I'm working on changing all that). :)
Since my Czech is abysmal, it's great that Petr and the other players speak English - in fact, it's pretty multi-national: Czech, Russian, British, Japanese, American, French, and probably more I haven't met yet.
Soon, the outdoor season will begin, which means lots of available, inexpensive courts. If you're looking for a tennis trainer or want to get involved in regular sessions or tourneys, I can strongly recommend contacting Petr Stepanek - I'm a poor teacher and I feel my money is being well-spent.
Feel free to contact me with questions about tennis with Petr - or better yet, ask him. He's easily reachable on expats or by mobile.
Ahoj.

I have been taking tennis lessons from Petr Stepanek (Stepanek Tennis School) for 5 months. Coming from the U.S., where I usually play on hard courts, it has a wonderful exerpeience to try out the clay courts here, under Petr's expert tutelage.
I have also played with some of Petr's other students, who have trained with him longer than me. These other players are very strong, and have a similar arsenal of skills that bears the Stepanek stamp. As one of these players remarked: "I've had lots of lessons before, but Petr has really improved my game, particularly my backhand."
Petr has an exceptional ability to watch each movement in your tennis swing (backhand, forehand, serve), and adjust each toward a level of excellent tennis. Step by step, he works as a master craftsman, all the while making the learning of tennis both facinating and very fun!!
Also a big plus is that Petr is a very good english speaker, and can be reached by cell phone (or e-mail) most anytime you want a lesson. As a visitor to Prague, I have personally enjoyed learning from Petr something more about life here in the Czech Republic - he has many interesting perspectives and stories to tell!
If you want some great tennis fun and good exercise, plus the opportunity to put some serious power (and topspin!) into your groundstrokes and service game, Stepanek Tennis School is your best bet in the Czech Republic. Also, Petr's fees are extremely reasonable, less than half of what you'd pay in U.S., UK, etc., for a coach of his calibur.
p.s. As conversation material, ask Petr how it was to growing up playing champion tennis in Prague clubs after the reign of Czech tennis legends Ivan Lendl and Martina Navratilova!

Arriving at a new place, it always takes a little while to work out what sport is played by the locals - it's too late for football, and ice hockey is not the easiest to get into (though I'm trying). I heard tennis is quite popular. I'm still to find a tennis partner, but in the meantime, I thought I might actually learn how to play, and so have had my first lesson with Petr. He is professional, sees clearly what you are doing wrong (quite a few things in my case), and is precise in how to fix them. By the end of the lesson, there was noticeable improvement. A few more lesson and, by the time I find a tennis partner, I might even be able to give that person a run for their money.

I've recently decided to take up playing tennis. First thing first, find a trainer and learn the basics. I contacted Petr Stepanek (found him on expat.cz) and asked some basic questions any beginner would ask, and boom I was off to my first lesson. The lesson was relaxed, not complicated and inexpensive. Petr is particularly good on technique and is very patient, which is definitely key for a beginner like me, since I wasn't in great shape and had no experience. The bonus is that Petr creates a timetable according to your availability. Having a full time job and living 40 mins outside of the city, he has made each lesson such a treat, that I can´t wait till the next one. If you are looking for a coach that is an all around great guy, then you definitely should give him a call and setup that first lesson. See you on the court!
