What a terrific surprise. A client of mine had hired this restaurant for an international luncheon for 80 people here in Praha. Rani came through with flying colors. They were on time, under budget(!), and catered to meat eaters and vegetarians. They provided 6 meat dishes and 6 vegetarian dishes. Of these, one each was under spiced, one each was average spiced, and one each was the fire brigade. Chicken, beef, vindaloo, spinach, and a couple of dishes I cant even identify were very popular. I dont claim to be a great expert at food from the sub-continent, but my guests were very pleased and complimented the buffet. I publicly thank them for giving a superior performance in taste and professionalism. I admit I had my doubts that they could cater for a luncheon this sized, and I am so glad I was wrong. Thank you Rani. You rocked

I have to admit that I'm disappointed with the food at Rana.
Having read some of the other reviews I was expecting better.
Maybe I shouldn't compare it with Indian restaurants in London but that's all I can do. On this basis it falls well short.
The worst aspect was the boiled chicken pieces that are added to the relevant sauce. They were chewy and tasteless. We had Lentil Chicken, which was bland and a Coriander Chicken which was slightly better but still not great. Mixing the two produced a better dish.
I don't know if the food is adapted for the Czech palate but it didn't taste like authentic Indian/Pakistani to me. If this is one of the best in Prague then I'll have to wait until my next trip to London for my Indian meal.
At 570 czk for a starter, two main dishes, rice and 4 beers I found it slightly expensive by Czech standards.
The service was good but the restaurant was practically empty, only one other table and some take aways.
If you're considering the trip out to Rana, try by all means but don't expect too much.

My husband and I just got home after a fantastic meal at Rana. The service was great, the food was amazing, and the portions were very reasonable. I had the Chicken and Chickpeas curry, my husband had Lamb Vindaloo, and both had far more than the usual five pieces of meat! Our curries were also nice and spicy, which is unusual around this city. I highly recommend the Pakoras and the salty Lassi. Both were right on the money and delicious. The food was also generous enough in portion size that I couldn't finish my curry. A lassi, 1 beer, an appetizer, two curries, spiced rice, and an order of naan ran us 540CZK VAT included. Not bad at all. We plan to go back, even though it is a 30 minute hike for us.

Hi
I have been eating at this restaurant for the past four or five years now. I have always enjoyed both the food and the company of the people running it. If your looking for good Pakistani food in a slightly strange atmosphere, and make some friends while you're there, then this is the place. I love the Kurma.

Having read all of the reviews about this restaurant, I was really looking forward to trying it. I actually already tried quite afew Indian / Pakistani restaurants in town and still haven't found one that plainly satisfies me... well I still haven't found.
I had the samosas as a starter, they're not bad but could have more taste, and teh crust could be more " crunchy" , and I found the accompanying sauces not very imaginative.
Then I got the " Goast Kurma" which is supposed to be lamb cooked in a creamy sauce with dry fruits... It looked very good in this special metal plate, but once again I was a bit disappointed : it was good indeed, but the lamb tasted more like beef to me, and I didn't find any dry fruits on this veeeeeeery creammy sauce. To much sauce, to much cream maybe. Had a naan as a side dish - naan is the best part of indian food to me -, and once again, it was fresh and good, but it didn't have this impossible-to-make-at-home taste that makes me go over and over to indian restaurants. Boyfriend had the normal rice, it was more some kind of cesko-adapted rice ( with carots and oil...) than the great looking-great tasting indian rice I know, the one with a bit of cardamom and dry fruits taste.
Oh and I don't think it's that cheap. It's very reasonnable, but not cheap.

Apart from location, this is an excellent restaurant {in fact one colleague has just walked into my office, asked me if I like this restaurant, cos he said it is one of his favourites}, great value, good service, friendly staff, and being a vegetarian.... well.... can recomend

The food is superb and worth waiting the few extra minutes it takes to prepare..I've been going there for the past three years and the service and food have been consistently good.

I agree. Delicious....
Been there a few times and have never been disappointed. Area is not great...true but the ambience of restaurant is good and the owner speaks very good English.
It also serves naan bread which is fab. Unlike some Indian restaurants in Prague. My partner wanted something a bit extra spicey and the owner was willing to create this for him.
Good value for money and worth a visit.

Quite simply, the best 'Indian' in Prague.
Everything is excellent - apart from the location.
Well worth the trip though - almost as good as the best restaurants in the Curry Mile, Rusholme, Manchester.
