The staff is friendly and great. I has classes with three teachers, and even though each has its own way of teaching, they all do it very well. They have a flexible scheme of modules, so it's also easy to study for some time, take a beak when you want, then continue from where you left off. I would definately recommend it.

Czech Language Training.....is a friendly, convenient way to ease oneself through the rigours of learning the Czech language. The flexible class plan allows you to choose on a monthly basis whether to continue or take a break. Tutors are friendly, patient and structure classes in such a way that learning is practical and fun.

Great school! The director, Miroslav, is friendly, helpful and efficient. My instructor, Petra, was enthusiastic, informative, patient and well prepared. As a beginner, I learned a lot from my classes with Petra at Czech Language Training.

Went here a couple of months. I think the school is average. Some of the reviews make it sound like this was the best school ever. Personally I will not go back there. Certain someone there is so pushy it makes me want to run the other way.

I found CZLT via expats.cz nearly 3 years ago, and have been studying there since then. After 1.5 years of regular classes I switched to individual lessons. At first I was impressed by the professional logistics and great level of flexibility: you can enroll, change your group, schedule, or type of lessons on very short notice, and you pay no more than a month in advance. Then I found CZLT´s efforts to make students happy amazing. Miroslav and all teachers keep asking for our feedback, preferences, and suggestions. I cannot be grateful enough to Miroslav for choosing the perfect teacher for my individual lessons based on a description of my studying habits I gave him. And my teacher does far beyond all expectations by putting together special homeworks and topics/exercises for me, constantly focusing on areas for improvement, and keeping me enthusiastic about the language. I have worked with several teachers, all of them are dedicated professionals with different teaching styles. I have favourite ones, of course, and I also met with some of them whose teaching methods were just not ideal for me. Or sometimes I felt that the group did not progress at the same pace I wanted to. This is inevitable with so many students with different preferences and expectations. In such cases Miroslav was always ready to listen and found a solution immediately. I am sure you will also find your ideal class and teacher here.

I can only add to all the positive reviews that I have read from other students. I have been working with this school for over a year now, have been met by a highly professional and dedicated teacher who even manages to inspire me and catch my full attention in the early hours of the morning; my teacher is flexible enough to meet my demands of special topics and vocabulary as well as help me improve my listening skills (radio broadcasts). She understands my special field of interest (Business) more than any teacher every before and helps me improve my grammar as well as my overall skills. For me this is definitely not a school/class just for fun and for a quick fix of "pub czech" but I went there, seraching for a way of slowly improving my Czech and reaching a more advanced level where I can communicate like a professional.The lessons I am taking sure help - clearly the pace is set by me to a large extent - depening on how many of the extremley well prepared worksheets I am completing and how much extra time I can dedicate to studying. My teacher is patient and supportive and at the same time gently pushing me to do some work - just right. Oranizational wise I think the school is fine as well - flexible, responsive to my needs and very quick in responding - while at the same time veyr reasonably priced.

I've been attending CLT school for more than a year and am completely satisfied with the result: in the beginning I was only able to say few basic phrases and now can talk about lots of topics. Each lesson normally consists of different types of tasks and exercises, so you don't get bored and improve different skills at the same time. I would definitely recommend this school.

I spend more than one year there, taking both group and individual lessons and my Czech hasn't stop improving. Before I write the review, I want to make sure to you that this school is the only one I attended, so the others can be better or worse. I had 2 different teachers in this school, the first one "took" me in my Beginner level and she was great, I felt my Czech was improving a lot. She followed the book, asked for homework and explained 5 times if necessary if you didn't understand the situation. Then, after a break I moved to a different teacher which was different from the first one. There wasn't any book follow-ups, no learning structure that we could follow at home. I felt very lost, and in 2-3 months my Czech improved very slightly. I read here that this Teacher is fun and doesn't care about the book, but I'm wasn't in the school to have fun, I was there to learn and to understand a language that I need for the future, you see I'm not the typical expat that wants to learn Czech for 3-4 months and then leave. I wanted a serious commitment of teaching. So, I told this to Miroslav, who supported and defended his teacher and "asked" for a second chance, which I agreed. Same teaching situation happen only 2 months after so I decided to leave. If you are looking for short and fun lessons, this is the place. If you want something more professional, serious and with structure then look for other place. The first teacher was great, but the second one was frustrating and I felt Miroslav didn't care much about my feedback, because he didn't solve my problem. No much Customer Service here.

I was looking to learn to speak Czech and discovered the 'Czech Language Training' Taboritska 15. I initaiily went for 2 weeks of individual (one-to-one) tuition and have been back twice since over the last two years for a 4 day and 5 day course. Each lesson was 3 hours and the teachers made it both interesting, interactive and enjoyable which ultimately enhanced the learning process. In contacting various companies/people I found the Czech Language Training school were genuinely concerned about the standard of education they delivered. I will certainly be returning for future courses and would be more than happy to recommend this company as a great place to learn Czech. Alan (London)

I have spent 3 months learning Czech at this school and I recommend it. They are supportive and flexible to their students and you can meet fellow expats and share not only the language learning experience but also improve cultural knowledge of the Czech Republic and other countries. You can also pick up practical knowledge about life in CZ via the classes too. It's a useful place to go to. So far, the best language centre I've experienced in Prague.

Attended intensive for beginners course in September. Must say am very pleased with the quality of the course and (relatively speaking) low price. Pluses: - small group means extra attention - teaching method is great, very flexible, can speed up or slow down based on how well you're doing - professional staff Minuses - location not so great, old building. Some classrooms are nicely remodeled, some old fashioned. Can be a bit noisy. - commute to/from by tram, not close to metro station (two tram stops from Flora, about 5 from city centre). This means it's not the most convenient place to find. Overall, very satisfied with quality of teaching and results so far. Can recommend this school without any hesitation.

Myself and two colleagues from the UK had 4 months of individual (one-on-one) lessons with Petra and would highly recommend her as a teacher and CLT as a company. Miroslav was flexible from the outset regarding the logistics of our lessons in order to meet our needs and was extremely helpful for the duration of the 4 months. And Petra, rather than sticking to text books etc which none of us wanted, adapted each of our lessons to suit our individual needs and preferences which was great and meant we learnt a lot more really practical and conversational Czech which we could really use in our short time in Prague. She was great fun too which really helped make the lessons speed by!

I can only recommend to visit this school for studying Czech. All teachers I have experienced there are very motivated and good. Of course they all have "their own way" how to teach, but you have the feeling that the tutors is interested in your improvements in Czech language. I have worked with Verkonika, Petra and Ludek, and all were very good. For 6 month I booked a course at Jazyková Škola Města Prahy and I was disappointed, it just was not the same. We finished classes sometimes 10 min. early and went purely according to the book. The much more flexible way of how Czech is taught in CLT (you just do not speakt a proper Czech by going through a book - you might still not speak a work even though knowing it theoretically) is from my point more appropiate to study this diffcult language. I even accept a little more unconvenience regarding location (not really on my work-home route in Prague). So, 10 points for CLT.

I've been attending the lessons at CLT just for few months, but in that short period of time my czech level improved a lot! When i attended my first lesson i was barely able to say "jak se mas?" but after a really short time i could have a conversation with a czech person (non-english-speaker) so i found in CLT the push i needed! the teacher (veronika) was really great, patient and funny, she was able to make the time fly away very fast while teaching the very difficoult czech grammar :) Now i'm leaving prague so i cannot continue my lessons, but if i was staying i was for sure enrolling for this year as well :) thanks a lot to all CLT staff!

The Czech Language Training Course is a great place to learn Czech. The staff are professional and friendly. The amount of students per group is perfect for group learning at each level, getting some individual instruction, and making friends. I was in the situation where I wanted to take courses one month, then skip a month due to traveling, and come back the next month and continue with a group working at my level. This was no problem at CLT because courses at all levels are open to new members every month. The system is very flexible and I had a positive experience. I highly recommend this CLT for anyone learning Czech language.

I agree with Andy about the evaluation of the Czech course by Magda in the first two weeks of last July. As former language teacher and present learner of many other languages, I know how difficult it is to satisfy all different expectations of the learners. I find, our teacher managed this pretty well, we could talk a lot, and by doing this, improve our command of the tricky peculiarity of the Czech grammar. when after a course the language I'm learning looks less "stranger" and becomes more familiar to me, then I know that I have received a good teaching: exactly what I can say about this course and our teacher Magda. Hey - wanted to add a positive comment about my experience about Czech Language Training... I think with any language school, the most important thing is that the solution they offer meets your needs. So, no one solution will be right for everyone. I tried one on one classes, thru another agency; I've also tried group classes managed thru my work. Neither of these solutions moved me forward. At CLT, the 2x weekly sessions move me along well (previously, I'd only done 1 class per week). I like the structure, and we spend a good mix of time drilling on basics vs. conversation. And, best of all is my teacher, Marie... she's utterly fantastic. I've given feedback to the school about her approach, which I feel is first rate (and I've had a bunch of Czech teachers, trust me :-). So would really recommend you guve them a try. C

I studied at CLT for several years and also tried quite a few other language schools/ private Czech teachers. I've been following some of the discussion here and overall pretty much agree with Good_Will: *I found some of the teachers at CLT fantastic, and my Czech speaking ability increased exponentially. The things i liked were: the classes were very structured & well-prepared, the teachers were engaging and patient, and the themes were relevant and wide-ranging (we did classes on current newspaper stories & dealing with tradespeople and a long course on Neruda's short stories). The atmosphere of these courses was relaxed, but they still were pretty rigorous. They involved a lot of class discussion as well as grammatical drillwork and a tonne of writing homework. *I found a few other teachers at the school less effective. Either their course content wasn't relevant to me, or I disliked their style of teaching. At the same time, I had no difficulty changing out of their classes & trying others until I found one I preferred. I was even given copies of past students' evaluation sheets for some of the courses I was considering. It's also worth noting that some of the teachers I liked best were ones my friends didn't care for & vice versa. * In sum, CLT courses can be really great, but they are also what you make them. At this level of learning, I really think you need to be ready to express your concerns about goals, activities, curriculum etc. during the course. I found that whenever I did this, I was taken very seriously by my teacher and Miroslav. My teachers repeatedly asked me what I wanted to focus on & whether I was happy. I'm always puzzled by people who put up with things they don't like and then complain after the fact.

Great schools are made by great teachers, and they do vary at CLT. I was lucky enough to start with Ludek, who is absolutely excellent. He even makes grammar fun which is pretty tricky to do regarding a language that seems to have been developed somewhere on Jupiter. Some other teachers there are not so good and use Czech Step by Step going through it chapter by chapter. That's not teaching as far as I know. That's laziness. So your mileage may vary. If you do get a great teacher though then the progress is quite startling. My Czech girlfriend is amazed by my progress, and sometimes I find myself actually thinking in Czech, which is frankly a bit odd. And no, I'm not Miroslav and I'm writing this of my own volition (see my previous reviews or posts). There's no such thing as a perfect language school but there are at least couple of very good teachers at CLT. The only reason I am not giving it a 10/10 rating is because there are some bad ones too. Cheers, Will

I never write reviews but I feel the urge to join the fray here. I'm giving CLT a rating of 9/10 because, even though the classes didn't really work for me personally, I think the school is excellent. The teachers are well-prepared, committed, friendly, funny, entertaining and knowledgable. The director of the school is hands-on and very interested in the students progress. The materials are varied and interesting. There is a range of other material, such as books and DVD's, available for the motivated student. Regular film and social nights are organised for students who wish to attend. The classes didn't work so well for me because I don't do so well in groups and I can't afford individual classes but I wouldn't hesitate to do individual classes with any of the teachers that I had at CTL if I could. Perhaps the expectations of the unhappy reviewers here are unrealistic. Sadly, there is no magic wand for language learning - it is a long, slow, hard and, often frustrating, slog. (And if the building isn't so glamourous, for me, it is more than countered but the fact that the prices are reasonable.)

Every time I come to this part of the website, I am amused. Every reviewer of Czech Language Training is full of positive feedback, writes in perfect English and has comments for different advantages of the school. Its location, teachers, lessons, etc, etc... I mean - yes, it's an ok school but nothing special. Location - Zizkov is Zizkov. It's in the basement. Teachers? Fine, have seen similar. But I cannot help thinking that all these reviews are done by hmm Miroslav himself... If you click on the reviewers, they mostly have done reviews only for CLT. What is Miroslav creates new logins and writes all these positive things about his school? I mean expats is a good place for advertising... :)

I was in the intensive course the reviewer below refers to, and while I respect her opinion and experience (and her facility with colloquial Czech, which far exceeds mine), I want to say I was very satisfied with the class. I can't speak for our other classmates, but for my money we got a comprehensive review of grammar plus plenty of opportunity for conversation and vocabulary building. I have had the same teacher, Magdalena, for regular classes at CLT since January and she has helped me tremendously. As for the books I guess I didn't mind that so much as I already owned them for my evening classes.

CLT has by far been the best Czech language school that I've been to in Prague. I've been with them for over 1 year, and my language skills have improved dramatically. Most impressive the quality of teachers there, who are friendly, knowledgeable, funny and entertaining. Lessons are flexible and based on the needs of the entire class, which allows for each lesson to be tailored towards the real language needs of the students. I guess people who have lived here for 9 years and still had to go to a low-level Czech class should be more concerned with their own abilities as opposed to complaining about A/C.

I just finished the two week intensive and I had a very different experience to the previous reviewer. True - there is no air con, but aside from that I found the course great and a real boost to my Czech. I felt I was in a safe pair of hands with my teacher. I, too, had photocopied handouts and no course outline, but she introduced the course on the first day, told us what we'd be learning, then kept to that program, so that I felt I knew where we were going and that I'd achieved something in the end.

I read the reviews and decided to enroll in the Intensive Intermediate Czech CourseUnfortunately it wasn't the experience I'd hoped for (nor did most of my fellow classmates). We were told it was air conditioned, but the teacher knew of no rooms that were. We never received a course outline and didn't know what was happening day to day. We bought books for 700kc and we used 2 pages - the rest of the book didn't apply. Handouts were cut and pasted together in a haphazard fashion. The last day of class just ended - as if we were to return the next day. That was it. All of us have been living in the CR over 5 yrs, myself 9 yrs, and we had expected something more.On a positive note,the teacher was pleasant and friendly.

It is very unfair you wrote your reviews as "we" (like for the other students from your class too) and wrote : “course Unfortunately it wasn't the experience I'd hoped for (nor did most of my fellow classmates). We received absolutely great references from the other students and three of them (why then ?) immediately continue in following term of our intensive classes. One of them even wrote he never met better teacher than your tutor Magda was... The course I took at Czech Language Training (CLT) was excellent. The pacing was perfect and the teacher was masterful. There was a good mix of grammar and conversation, as well as fun activities within the class. I never got bored and was able to experiment with the Czech langauge while I did my homework. I plan on taking another course in the future. Anyone considering a language program should seriously consider this school. The only possilbe down side was that it was a bit of a walk from the city center, but I was in a hostel that was 10 mins walk away, so it was no problem.

This language school is in a convenient location. It is near Olsanske Namesti, close to metro Flora. You can get there from Muzeum (A line) or Hlavni Nadrazi (C line) by tram 9. It is also at a walking distance from Flora (A line). The place is friendly and cozy. There is a lounge downstairs, in front of the office, where you can prepare coffee or tea and, if you have a laptop, surf the internet through the free wireless connection. Staying in the lounge waiting for the class to begin gives you a chance to improve your Czech: almost each item you will find in there is accompanied by a yellow label next to it, and on this label you can read the Czech noun for the item. I was attending a class for beginners. Ludek, the teacher, immediately focused on providing us with basic communication skills. This allowed me to go out and talk to people using what I had learned in class. Grammars was explained, but that was not the main focus. For a beginner, what is mostly important is pronounciation, vocabulary, and verbs. Pronunciation is important because Czechs are not used to hearing foreigners screwing up with their language, so they will hardly understand you if you don't pronounce correctly. Also, you must become proficient with the core of the language (the little big words) as soon as possible. This will allow you to react quickly to every question, and be able to say at least something. The most important thing: don't be ashamed of doing mistakes. Try to speak. Czechs will not care for the mistakes. Rather, they will admire your heroic efforts to learn their language.

Hi, I received an individual language course from this agency for 2 months. It was perfect from first day to last minute. The teacher (Petruse) was very capable in accomodating to my level of Czech, which was mainly based on my second mother tongue Croatian. This way I was already able to speak quite some Czech, but faced lots of problems in mixing up the grammar and words. Her approach was mainly based on communication, discussion and describing certain situations - without looking in any books and without learning the grammar-charts by rote I made huge progress from lesson to lesson! The atmosphere was always very positive and open and I never felt any pressure or shame. The organizational side was highly professional, Mr. Kasparek answered every email quickly, the bills were perfectly ok for my office to be taken into the accountancy and Petruse was always on time at the lessons. And: I received a special rate based on the amount of lessons I booked! I do not have any reason to complain! Thank you very much!! Tomislav

I began as totally beginner and after 14 months I attended advanced course. To be honest, the first steps were not easy:) Thanks to a great teachers I considered it as a good fun. Many regards to : Ludek (my first teacher, who taught me to think in Czech), Mr.Kasparek(who showed me that a grammar can be interesting) and Veronika (who always was able to motivate me to harder work).

CTL is a great place to learn Czech. The teachers are very experienced and know very well how to explain the Czech grammar (which is not easy to find in Prague). The groups are pretty smalls, maximum 6 persons. The atmosphere is very relax but making sure you are also learning. Would definitely recommend it.

Learning Czech is hard, and takes a long time. Most of us learn from books, and this teaches us (slowly) to be able to READ Czech. I, like many, was in the situation where I could read Czech really well, but by ability to SPEAK Czech was falling far behind. Sure, I could mumble a few short sentences, but couldn't string together complex sentences on the fly. A friend recommended CLT to rectify that. After just two months, Czech friends (and my wife) say they are astounded with the improvement in my ability to talk Czech. I can honestly say, CLT have helped me more with the ability to SPEAK Czech more than I could ever have imagined.

I took classes at CLT for nine months last year, and absolutely loved the friendly people and comfortable atmosphere, the small classes (4-5 people) were ideal, the teachers I had were extremely helpful and entertaining, and the cost was very reasonable for someone on as meager an income as myself. I looked forward to my Czech classes every time and I never left feeling stupid or frustrated. All questions I had were answered thoroughly and non-condescendingly, and it's very easy to get started or change schedules, if need be. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT for foreigners in Prague!

The Czech Language Training is the right school for those who wish to learn Czech in a good enviroment. I'm not only talking about grammar rules and specialised English speaking teachers, but mainly about the psycological approach developed by all the staff working there. Dynamic classes full of fun and entertainment, because teaching can't be resumed in grammar explanations only. It's above all self-confidence provided for the students at a more than a resonable price. I was going to take 10 classes at Berlitz for 1.000 US dollars, but I was advised by a friend of mine to call the Czech Language Training and speak with them. I was recommended CLT by a colleague, and was definitely not disappointed. There were 4 students in the class and the pace was well set by our teacher. The classes were interesting, full of new vocab and, most importantly for me, the atmosphere was good. Our teacher supplemented the book well with good activities (including some Czech cartoons). As a TEFL teacher, I am a very critical student, but I was more than satisfied with the course. I intend to pick up the course again on my return to the Czech Republic.

CLT is a great resource in Prague for learning Czech. The classes are small and the teacher I had was very good. We progressed at a pace that was challenging yet manageable. After we learned some basics, the small size of the class allowed us to practice quite a bit of conversation. All in all, CLT is a very good value.

I agree wholeheartedly with all the other positive comments about Czech Language Training. They have provided me with an excellent introduction to the Czech language. I am making steady progress and I intend continuing with them. Miroslav Kašpárek runs a friendly, effective and professional operation and he is a very patient teacher. He understands his students and knows how to get the best from them. He was recommended to me by Lída Holá, the author of the New Czech Step by Step course, and you can’t get a much better recommendation than that. CLT’s courses are good value for money as well as being effective and in addition to providing proficient and enjoyable teaching, they offer their students the opportunity to learn about Czech culture. They run regular film nights, showing Czech classics (with English sub-titles) in collaboration with a group of film enthusiasts. In this way, not only will you learn the language, you will get to know something about Czech culture and to acquire an understanding of what it means to be Czech.

Dobry den readers! with great pleasure i leave you my advice on learning czech: find Czech Language Training center! working in Praha n wanting to learn the national language in quality, i was lucky to find and enrole in CLT center n found all the knowledge and support i needed. The teachers are extremely supportive and professional, leading you into an active assimilation/production of the czech language, in real time. Look no further, they will even make u believe learning czech is the easiest thing! it is, with them. Na zdraví!

The tuition at CLT has fully met my expectations and more.
It is flexible and given with considerations of the individual student.
Ludek has so far been my only teacher here. Both on one to one
and in group lessons. His tuition is recommendable - clever,
friendly and motivating and any question you might have
will be treated with respect and curiosity.
My regards to Miroslav Kasparek too. He has shown great efforts
and understanding to make the tuition timetable possible for me.
If you are really up for the task of learning the Czech language.
this is certainly the place to get on with it.

I enjoyed my 3 months with an ambitious teacher - Marie - and a small group of students. If you take your time for doing the homework and studying the vocabulary you will make great progress in little time. I recommend Czech Language Training!

The standard of teaching is excellent; our teacher Marie was always well prepared and the classes were packed with information - often too much to absorb at the time (ie: you will need to do homework and buy the latest edition of the two "New czech step by step" books by Lida Hola). The cost is very fair and much less than some less scrupulous competitors (as at November 2006). Overall an excellent school with a great atmosphere and great people. If you want to start to learn czech, this is the place to do it! Moc Dobry!

I had a one to one language course for 34 hours with CLT and went from zero to basic Czech in a wonderful way. Very friendly, very flexible and highly recommended.

I couldnt have asked for more from the high standard of teaching I recieved form Maria at CLT, extremely friendly and a thorough teacher I would definitley reccomend this be the first place to look at when wanting to begin the daunting task of learning the czech language. Hi guys, Czech Language Training is definitively a great school for all foreigners that want to learn such a difficult language as Czech. I am an engineer in the manufacturing field and I daily work with Czech colleagues ( technicians and opertors ) that cannot speak English at all ! I even have technical meetings , conference calls and trainings in Czech. When I got the job, I thought I would turn crazy because I had so much difficulty in making myself understood and in understing people. Even with my Cezch girlfriend help, I was not able to make tremendous progress ! In 6 months time , I managed to get a complete confidence and great skills thanks to the Czech Language Training school best practices and thanks to a hard personnal work. The methodologies are very efficient! I have been searching for a good language school in Prague for ages and this school is the best due to the quality courses and the courses cost. JUST DO IT !

CLT recently organised an intensive week-long course for me and I can fully recommend this organisation to anybody who wishes to take a short tailor-made one-to-one course in Czech, including at advanced level. Proper thought went into preparing the material and classes and the teaching methods used were very professional. CLT also has good classroom facilities. The course was good value for money and was precisely what was advertised with no hidden add-ons. I should add that I organised the course from outside the Czech Republic through internet, which worked very well ( students do a placement test which is properly assessed).

For me it was a really great pleasure to study the Czech language at CLT, especially because I had with Ludek such a creative, always well-prepared teacher. His method to teach or to hold a lesson suited me very much: from reading and listening texts, playing games, writing essays as well as of course studying the grammer...Also I want to thank Ludek for his patience and his way, which made me go to school with pleasure! First of all, I would like to thank Czech Language Training because, finally, I can order in Czech something else than just “Pivo”!!! This is just to say that I have been studying Czech for one year and few months and I still have the same enthusiasm as the first day! I think CLT has the right program structure and its teachers the right competences to take you through this difficult journey in a “foreigners-not friendly” language like Czech! When I moved here a year ago, I had no previous experience with learning any foreign language, but I sincerely wanted to learn Czech. I tried several schools, grew frustrated and almost gave up until I tried CLT. Even though I am not young and also a bit slow, I am achieving great results because of my teacher's fine teaching skills and patience. My lessons are geared to my own understanding and pace. As a bonus, I have learned much about Czech culture and lifestyle. I look forward to my lessons which are effective and enjoyable. I highly recommend CLT if you truly want to learn this difficult language.

I'm a big fan of these guys. Czech is hard and this is one of the best schools around. They teach you the grammar in easy bite-sized pieces and around subjects you need to know - so you learn the accusative case when you learn how to order in restaurants, for instance. I searched for a while before finding them, and I think it was the best investment I made here in Prague. Good luck!

I would like to commend Czech Language Training for their professional instructions. I've never appreciated learning any languages before until I started training with CLT. What I've learned in the last few months is amazing. I can understand and speak Czech although I'm still not fluent on it but I've noticed a considerable change in understanding the language and embracing the culture. It helped me a lot in my job and dealing with locals. My czech colleagues noticed it too. Thank you CLT for a job well done.
