The Mánes House belongs to the most significant works of functionalist architecture from the period between the two world wars.  

The idea of the Association of Fine Artists Mánes to build their own house is dated to the year 1887 when the association was founded. The need to have a space functioning as their own centre for various activities of the association in the field of fine arts was constantly growing. However, it was only in the year 1930 that this idea was realized according to the plan of the architect Otakar Novotný, a follower of Jan Kotěra. Since its completion in 1934 until today the building has served the fine arts. Its exhibition spaces belong amongst the highest quality of its kind.
